Where's the voltage regulator? - Diesel Forum

Time to swap out the voltage regulator. But they put it in two places my year: either inside the alternator or on the firewall somewhere. Haven't found it yet, so I'm beginning to think it's internal.

Can anyone tell me where exactly I'd find it if it's external? And what might I see if it's internal? (I'd rather not remove the alternator if I don't have to)

Geez....I had an 88 and I can't remember where it was. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img]
If it's on the alternator it would be on the back and pretty hard to see. If it was an external one it would be mounted on the back side of the radiator support on the passenger side....between the radiator support and the battery.
