The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

I installed the Wicked Wheel today and was surprised by it's performance!
My egt's are about 25-50 degrees lower and the low end throttle response is a little snappier. The best thing is the van sounds like Mad Max's supercharger when I nail the throttle.
You should have seen the looks on my buddies at work when I pulled into the parking lot.
They asked if I installed a supercharger in the van.

I had my Ford dealer install it in 3 hours with no problems at all.
I have a mechanic there that knows these diesels inside and out.
If anyone is interested in installing this Wicked Wheel,it is well worth the money.

Re: The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

rockwrangler,it's a turbo compressor wheel that is designed to:

Increase low end throttle response
Reduce or eliminate turbo flutter
Increase airflow
Lower EGT'S
Sound like a 671 blower when you nail the throttle

It's available at www.dieselsite.com by Bob Riley.
Here is the direct link to the Wicked Wheel:
http://www.dieselsitetoo.com/product...1=218&3=47

Well worth the money in my opinion.
The van feels like I just removed about 1000lbs of weight when taking off from a start. When on the highway cruising at 65mph and nailing the throttle, the van pulls like a freight train.

The mechanic said my turbo was in great condition with hardly any wear and thats with 83,000 miles on the van.

Re: The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

Tom, did you have to have the assy balanced or just install and go...some discussion of this over on the truck site about balancing entire assy...so say do...some say it's not necessary...and did you replace bearings and rebuild when you had turbo removed...and last Q was approx cost of Ford Labor...tksbd
BTW if Larry M. is monitoring ....This is the first time in 2 weeks that I have been able to use the "reply" button and it worked!!!!it usually "times out" on me...no problems on "other"sites...sorry for posting this here Tom but I haven't been able to respond to anyone or even read threads for 2 wks now....Larry M. what's the deal?? Re: The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

Bill, the turbo bearings, etc. were in great condition so I didn't replace anything.
My Ford service manager and local International service manager stated that I would be good to go without rebalancing the turbo.
The Wicked Wheel is balanced and I am not worried about it's future.
I have seen 35 lbs of boost many times and my turbo was in like new condition with hardly any end/side play.
My mechanic (Joe) stated he has seen many turbos that had a lot of play in the shaft with about 35,000-50,000 miles on the vehicles.
There was probably abuse on the owners end ie;high egt's,shutting engine down too fast, etc.
I'am sure the turbo temp monitor, changing motor oil every 3-4000 miles and watching the egt's is contributing to my turbos life.

It cost me $207.90 with tax for my dealer to install the Wicked Wheel, install a new fuel filter I supplied and check out my entire van ie;engine, tranny, rearend, etc. due to my warranty almost expiring on my engine.
My wholesale labor rate cost was $55.00/hour.

Plus,my mechanic installed a new pedistal o-ring kit for free as he had an extra kit laying around.
I could have performed this task myself with ease (along with anyone mechanically inclined)however,I'am too busy at work and didn't have time. I feel this price was definately worth the results.

Re: The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

Speaking of "warranty", did your dealer have any comments about adding modifying the turbo while under warranty?

Re: The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

No problem!!
My dealer works with me on all my vehicles.
As a matter of fact,my dealer knows of "all" my mods.
The van has had zero warranty problems to date except for the Dana 60 gears exploding apart(possibly due to a bad set of gears at Ford )
My dealer covered the rearend with no questions asked.

Make sure you get to know the salesman, service manager and mechanic at your dealership and life will be good.

Re: The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

TOM

Your van is a year 00. Does your turbo have a wastegate. The vans converted from an non wastegate to a wastegate looking to find what year was the changeover. Also is your van a true E-450 from ford. Ford has not built a E-450 in complete van form that i can find. Heavest duty E-350 in a van body.

BILL-MADVAN-- Looking to see how W-Wheel will work in non waste turbo

Re: The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

Bill,my van is actually an E-350 cargo van but I have done so many mods to this van ie;suspension, engine, tranny that I now call it an E-450.
The 2000 and newer 7.3 van turbos are all non wastegated to my knowledge. You'll love the sound this wheel makes especially when on the highway.
I was cruising about 65mph with the propane flowing and my flip chip set in the 140hp mode and the whistle and accelleration was incredible when i nailed the psycho pedal. The van definately has more get up and go in all power bands.
My egt's towing a 5000lb load were an average 100 degrees less.

In conclusion,do this mod, you'll love it!

Re: The Wicked Wheel Rocks!

Let's see...

4" exhaust
propane
performance chip
Wicked Wheel

Where do I begin? Your van must have double the power of a stock engine! I'd be interested to know which ones you did in what order and what gains you noticed as you added them...

Sure you don't have a 10K mod on the truck too? (But why bother?)

Aceman, I understand that the turbo whistles more when under a pull such as on a hill etc. I am trying to make this a van my wife will enjoying driving. What is the noise of the turbo when doing normal driving ? Such as around town, doing 55 or 70mph ? What did the wheel do compared to the propane injection ? I appreciate your response. Thanks !
