There is only one fuel pump, and it is on the frame rail under the driver seat.

I always check my mpgs, but last tank was the most accurate. I filled to the top of the filler neck both times, and got 14 even. That is with quite a few full throttle blasts.

Since it's started getting into the 20's and 30's lately - My mileage has dropped as well. Ecpected that tho.... I always take the time to fill to the top of the filler neck to the point where it doesn't settle anymore - About 6.5-7 Gal after the inital shutoff on the pump.

I live in a rural town - Not much stop and go. But since it's winter and I'm kinda working a regular job - I only drive 6 miles to work everyday. Not a good thing for mileage or the engine.

I'll plug the engine inat night before I go to bed(Getting a timer soon) - I'll start the engine and put my DP tuner on high idle in the morning. Let it warm up for about 10-15 minutes - The engine doesn't come up to operating temp no matter how long I let it idle. I'll start driving to work being nice and easy on the throttle - I'm not sure weather it's the wastegate or turbo - But I get a bit of a metalic whine from the turbo area until the engine gets 90% warm. In those 6 miles to work - about when I'm pulling into the shop the engine just comes up to temp. I also plug the engine in while I'm at work too.

I got 15.46mpg on the last tank.... The tank before was filled the same as always - But I towed our race trailer for about 180 miles - the rest of the tank was driving around our town and to and from work - 13.9mpg.

I know that I should have done the 203 degree T-Stat and the Evans coolant - But Not enough time and money - Now I wish I had..... So as a stop gap until I can get it done I made a radiator grille cover. Engine does come up to temp sooner once I start driving - So that's good... Just have to see how it works

Winter - Waste diesel - Garbage mileage - But at least diesel is down to $2.59-$2.79 locally....

This tank of fuel, after replacing fuel filter, air filters, checking all intake components, removing the cat and always using stanadyne fuel additive.... Final results:

8 MPG’s!

Going to the diesel shop on Monday and having the turbo checked. This is getting ridiculous.

On a WAG check the thermostat.
I would replace it with a 203*

The PSD gets its base tune from the EOT and baro.
Bet is your running EOT is to cold and results in poor mpg.

I run a 203 and a winterfront to keep the temps up.

so here I am, just driving through town and I come up on a red light. I stop at light and about 5 seconds after stopping the engine dies. I put it in park and try to start it. Nothing. The light turns red, so I wait a minute or so and try to start it again. Nothing. After about three/four red/green light changes, I try it one more time before I was going to call AAA. It starts. The whole way home it drives just fine, no power loss, nothing. The check engine light never came on either.

what that heck is going on? It hasn't been cold enough for the fuel to gel. Is the fuel pump going bad?

Damn. A mystery......

But is it connected to the bad fuel economy.... or a completely unrelated issue....

your diesel quiting for no reason

Been reading your postings on mileage. My 98 E350 15 psgr van is returning 18 mpg. I was getting 20 mpg with my shorter '96 12 psgr Don't know if they have the same rear axle ratio.

But to get to your dying diesel problem - I had the same problem and replaced the CPS sensor (camshaft positioning sensor). That solved the problem. I could have sworn someone already responded with that answer a day ago and now I don't see it posted. Am I just imagining this? Anyway, I got mine at the stealership for about $155 - they wanted to charge me like $180 but I told them the International truck dealers had it for less than $130 (but they wouldn't sell it to me without a Intl truck model number - but I didn't tell the parts counter that). So she gave me a slight discount. Took about 15 minutes to install.

I've never been able to rely on the fuel gauge. Sometimes it goes down faster than I expect and other times it seems to hang just above half full for ever.

The only reliable method is to fill up to the neck of the fuel tank so that you can see the diesel (not the foam) up at the neck.

Then check your odometer and drive until you fill it up again to the neck of the fuel tank.

Anything else is guessing a little bit, in my opinion.

It's the winter blend. I have a 2006 6.0 and this time every year I lose 50 that's right 50 mi per tank. ? Instead of the 350 per 25 gal I get 300. This is a Quigley with 4.10 gears......

Just put 465 miles on a tank. This was over the course of about a month - Weather has been so bad here that I can't really justify driving the van. Like I said in my earlier post - During the winter I only drive about 10-15 per day. With the winter blend and extra warmup time I just got 14.1mpg... If I was able to spend more time on the highway - Or allow the engine to at least get to operating temp before I had to shut it off - It would be better....

Diesel here in southern WI is about $2.39 a gallon
