As for the engine speed, I notice that when it is below 10 degrees F, it takes substanially longer for before the TQ locks in. Often 4 or 5 miles at 60 mph. When it's warm, it seems to lock in right from the start.
Another item that I finally got around to making was a winter front. I made one out of black vinyl, since I didn't like the commercially available ones. I've not covered up the big gap in the bumper yet; maybe next winter. The van warms up a lot faster. I don't have enough data to quantify yet, but it looks to have resulted in as much as a 20% improvement in fuel economy. It's warming up here too, which may make fuel economy look better than it really is. Nevertheless, we are still routinely seeing -15 to -20 nighttime lows, so I'm convinced that the winter front has contributed at least somewhat to the increased mileage.
