Exclamation 2012 F250 Diesel Shift from Drive to Reverse delays-Serious!

Has anyone had shifting problems with the 2012 F250 diesel 6.7 shifting from drive to reverse? It does not want to go into drive as quickly as it should and possibly still be in drive when the stick shows reverse?
I have had a couple times where this has happened and the last one was very serious. I need help finding out if this has been an issue with the tranny. I have seen other posts here with different kinds of shift problems that I am also experiencing but thought "it was just they way the truck was" and had to get used to it. My truck was bought in July 2012 and has been great otherwise....this last incident was seroius and want to dig into the matter to see if there are any other issues out there.
Please let me know.
Thanks!

Exclamation 2012 F250 OBR's ?

Let me also add or ask....is there an on board recorder that may have captured this in an accident....yep. I thought I read in the manual that there was a short time recorder for accidents....any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there!

I responded to your post on another thread, but I want to make sure that you know that I'm here and can assist. Send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name; I'll escalate your case to your region's customer service manager and have them contact you promptly.

To answer your other question: yes, your vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder (EDR). You can read about its functionality on page 9 of the 4th printing of your Owner's Manual, available for download here: https://owner.ford.com/servlet/Conte...OwnerGuidePage

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Crystal

Several people here have reported (me included) a delayed shift from P to R or D, either after a long cool down or in the morning. And while driving some skip/missed shifts. There are plenty of TSBs out there for this behavoir.

I have not encountered the truck being in Reverse once I have shifted to D. I have had the truck go into nuetral when I was in fact in D. After a second or two it catches and away we go.

There is a 'black box' (it is actually silver most of the time) in most vehicles that records the last few seconds when you are in an accident - but usually this is an accident where airbags are deployed.

Crystal, I am going to see my dealer here and then to the truck to get the info you need and I will PM you....Thanks to everyone...keep em coming. I don't want to think I am crazy here!

Mine did the delayed reverse a couple of times. Not sure how to repeat it. Usually I let it build pressure in the system before I drive off. I might of been in a hurry and it was cold to start. I have 60K now and have to back up every time to leave my house.

Still not made it to dealership. They did tell me there was no recorder that would have tripped unless the airbags did. I would like to find out more about this. I am not allowing the battery to be disconnected until I can find out if that will clear the Black/Silver recording device in the vehicle.
Can you help with this information?

Hi kstop57,

I've passed along your question to my technical advisor for his feedback. I'll touch base with you as soon as I have an answer.

Thanks!

Hi Crystal,
I need info on this EDR data. Have you been able to find anything out? I PM'd you today as well....
I need to have the data extracted ASAP. If the batteries are disconnected, will it still hold?

Hi kstop57,

I confirmed with my technical advisor that the only data recorded by the EDR is in the event of collision/airbag deployment, so I don't know how valuable that information is going to be for you. Also, disconnecting the batteries will not affect the data.

Keep me posted,

Crystal

why do you need the data cleared? was it in an accident and you want to take it to the dealer to get the delay looked at? how long is the delay? what do you mean by serious? did you buy it new?

What vehicle did you come out of to this one? This is my 3rd SD and it works just fine when switching from Park to Reverse or whatever, but its not instant, there is a delay. Its a big truck. I never worried about it. I'm not usually in that big of a hurry and Id rather let it shift when the tranny is ready.

yep 2012 with 9k on it 6.7.
I came from an 04 F250 SD 6.0 and had two before that 01 and 85. That's not an issue. I have also 30 yrs of commercial semi driving under my belt too (no tix, no accidents) so that's not the issue either. Yes there was an incident. I want to get the data for personal reasons. I had this happen once or twice before along with the slipping, jerky shifting. Not in a hurry at all at the time. I was making a 3 point turn with no throttle. Tires rotated maybe 1-2 times. Put into R and she went forward. I want to ensure there is not an issue like this with any others as it is a safety issue as you can imagine. There ya have it....ideas?
