On my 2011 F250 I had to hit the + - on the shifter once to turn it on, but always was on after that. On my new 2012 F450 it was already on, hasn't turned off yet.

After 12b33 flash It doesn't turn on any more. I have to hit + or - every time.
Wondering if its the flash that caused that?
It should stay in what ever position you left it when you turned the truck off.
Make sure you are not bumping the button when you shift to park and then shut down. It should still be displayed when you restart the truck.
When they reflashed mine for the 400/800 reflash. My display was not visable. I took it back in. Tech said computers said the flash went thru. But I insisted they redo it, since I had no gear display. After they reflashed it, The gear display appeared and has worked fine since. So if it's not working properly, just have them reflash it.

Actually the 400/800 flash set it so it would remain the way it was when the truck was shut down. Customers complained about having to reset it every time they restarted the truck, so they set it to rmember the last setting. You may have to turn it on after a pcm reflash, but it should remember the way you left it.
Actually prior to the 400/800 the display would terminate every time you changed the transmission. i.e. Go from Drive to Reverse and the display was gone. It was more than just turning the truck off.

Ok good, so I am not imagining things here. My truck never had 400/800 flash. It's a 2011, came from the factory 400/800 and YES it did display the Digital shift indicator with out having to hit the +- every time. I'll take it back and see if there's a way to fix this. We will see if HDslider is correct.
Thanks Guys

Reason: Update
All I got is, you have to hit the + - every time. They don't agree that the flash has anything to do with it. They will look at it but it would be out of my pocket.
Buddy go find another dealer.as the one your dealing with has there head up there rectum. You have bumper to bumper 3years 36, 000 miles.
It's done. They had some trucks in the lot, Showed them. Black and white.
In the New Year it will get fixed. Of course they are Baffled and the look on their faces tells me they have no idea where to begin. Also my factory reset
doesn't fully work any more either. Although the Dash remembers my settings regardless what screen i choose. I cannot factory reset my wiper control. If i chose no wipe and hit reset it stays there. If i chose wipe and hit reset it stays there. I do realize that the reset is for everything in the dash but using the wiper control seemed an easy way to check it out.
