even if their test is slightly off, I will take 20mpg with a 1000 lb. load in the bed. Sounds promising to me.

Looks like the 24.1 mpg used a GPS to determine distance traveled. My '06 with new tires is dead on with its computer mileage. The first link in this thread has similar MPGs. Didn't see a towing MPG.

I disagree with having to have a commercial license to pull a 24,000 pound RV. All sorts of people are running around in 30,000 pound motor homes with a regular license. Texas requires a special noncommercial class C RV license for over 26,000 pounds. In Montana you can pull triples(pickup-5th wheel RV-boat or what ever)legally with class D. As long as it is an RV and you are not being payed a class D is good. Also in Montana one can drive a tractor trailer as long as it is for AG purposes and it is not your main duty, IE tractor driver.

I sure hope this new powertrain works out well for Ford. I've wanted a ford for years, but just can't stand the previous powerstroke engines. I'll be buying one in about a year and a half if this powertrain proves to be good.

You are correct. But if its a work /company owned truck it should have a DOT #. Also its a good way to keep unskilled drivers from towing 26k. With that much weight it would be very easy to break or hurt someone pulling hills on a test drive. I wouldn't let just anyone use my truck to pull that much. They better practice in there truck first.

Suppose the '11 450 was derated to make it easier to insure as a personal vehicle? Speaking of DOT. If you are a carpenter, drive your personal 10,100lb gvw pickup onto the job site with your tool belt in back, and the general contractor operates in more than one state you must have a federal DOT number. Because you are now involved in interstate commerce. Had this happen in Nebraska last summer. DOT numbers are free but now I am subject to random DOT safety inspections, must carry fire extinguisher, first aid kt, flares and a bunch of other stuff. Not to mention if a light is out or the wiper blades have a nick in them I am fined and it goes against my license. Of course this generates a lot of revenue for the DOT.
In Montana if it is a farm truck regardless of GVW used only for farm business no DOT number or inspections required. If you are an employee of said farm and you main duty is to do anything except drive that truck you do not have to have a CDL to drive the truck.

Sounds pretty much like the same rules as New york.I was interested in a DOT#. Never thought about the random checks although I have never seen a DOT cop checking a pickup.Im sure they can make a much bigger ticket on a 10+ wheeler.
