flood diesel update

haven't had alot of time to work on it,so far i have removed upper intake and removed the glow plugs to push water out of cylinders,i unhooked fuel lines,i also had to take the starter of it was stuck,i put it back on and spun the engine,i am going to order a instrument cluster and bcm junction box tomorrow, next step will be to pull tank and blow out lines.just thought i would post an update on whats going on,i honestly dont think it is going to be as bad as some have said

12..Any way you can verify if "new electronic instrument cluster" is actually simple swap out or is re programming computer required? Good luck on your project.

I am almost certain the cluster will have to be programmed to the truck.last time i swapped one from an 02 to 03 and it had to be programmed.i have a friend that works for the local ford dealer and he is able to do this for me outside the dealership.it really helps out on cost, cause you no how it is when you take something to dealer for repair.i had to bite the bullet and order cluster from ford it cost me $520.couldn't find a used one anywhere with the monitor made in it.

The crankcase is fairly well sealed in order to comply with emission requirements. If the intake and exhaust fill up with water it will end up on top of the pistons. as well as in the intake, turbo, and so on.

IS the interior already stripped and set up to dry?

I think it would be very wise to crank it over and expel water and then take out the MAP/Boost sensor on the top of the black air inlet crossover that leads to both inlet "manifolds" that are integral with valve covers. Use this opening to fog WD-40 or even something that is a heavier oil and crank engine over to get cylinder walls coated. If it is even a couple of days before it runs after you get water out, rust will form on cylinder walls. Oiling the cylinder walls will help a lot with that.

Keep the updates flowing!! Great project, I have a friend locally who's being doing extensive repairs and rebuilds on the 6.4s, buying them on Copart, properly repairing them, and selling them. Doing quite well at it.

Are you taking pictures of this whole thing? Once you get it running I'd love to see some write-up with pics on how you took one of these computerized beasts from drowned to driving. I have no doubt you'll make it work, I just really want to see how far into it you have to get.

Fresh water is not always terminal... My company truck was flooded and engine hydrolocked. They took the plugs out and blew the water out by cranking starter. That was 3 or so years ago and it has been fine. I have seen many outboard motors go down in salt water and be revived.

The truck is new enough that maybe all of the connectors stayed dry like they were suposed to. Who knows...

That looks like a sweet ride, hopefully you can get it up and going without too many problems or major expenditures. I actually look forward to seeing your updates on it.

I finally got my cluster and bcm.put the cluster and bcm.the bcm will have to be programmed so i decided to put the old bcm back in and to my suprise everything went to working in the cluster.i still have an issue with the ignition though.my cluster monitor says i have a system start fault.after researching the problem i have concluded it may be the pats transceiver.going to do some voltage tests on it tomorrow.still gotta long road ahead but i am getting there.i will post again when i find out more.
