I figured they couldn't let ford have the reign very long but I still think the Ford has the BEST looks and apparently the best Tow capacity still even though the competition claims more HP /Torque
Thank God we have the competition though, otherwise we would likely be driving 200 hp 500 ft/lbs diesels still
Lets see what Dodge answers with?

jeez, where does it end? How much can GM possibly squeez out of the same motor? I guess we'll see when they do head to head comparisons here soon and i'm sure Ford is not going to sit idle and allow their diesel to come in second behind GM. However, can GM match those fuel consumption numbers? 22MPG is incredible.

I'd like to see the torque curves...for both....
I believe the article mentioned a 11% increase in MPG for GM... Ford just mentioned Best in class,.. but not sure what that means?
We all knew they could make more hp, the tuners easily bump them up to these numbers years ago, it's just that there is likely less free hp/torque available as there used to be...
As much as we think the big 3 hate the aftermarket for warranty, they likely learn a lot by reverse engineering all the aftermarket components out there and also see how their engine tranny's perform under extreme conditions, but with the caveat of voiding our warranties...

Right on GMCs home page they have a flash video thats says they can do 680 mile range on a 36 gallon tank (which seems small to me) so thats only 18.8mpg. the thread on here about an independant tester getting into the mid 20s seems very promising about Ford overcoming the emmissions problems that have plagued the 2007-2010 models for all three brands.
I'm actually a bit fan of Sierras and Silverados but the new Ford and the fuel economy numbers really have me looking at a 2011 Ford SD.
I hope people start getting the trucks ASAP and doing some real driving to report back how the trucks work.

I think Ford has the advantage in the fuel economy arena because they are the only ones starting out from scratch to be able to address that. They're not throwing new parts on an old design or new programmers to eek out the power and economy. I think for the first time Ford will be viewed as the fuel economy leader, and not the other way around.
It is a never ending battle. Now GM is going to re rate their capacitys to out do fords new numbers. I wouldn't doubt if their new 3500 gets numbers like Fords F-450.
I don't really care how much power the other brands make. I know I can rely on my Ford to start up every day and do whatever I ask of it. Plus life is too short to have an ugly truck lol.

It's no surprise GM will have more hp and tq than Ford. In the past 10 years how many years did Ford have more hp and tq than GM in the diesels??? One reason why the 6.0 may have been rushed to market is to compete with the 6.6 higher hp and tq than the 7.3.
Give them a few years to work the bugs out and more than likely they'll both be adding a few hp and tq to the motors.
So the tug of war challenge is back on again???

I wonder what kind of turbo lag the duramax has? Rumor has it that there is virtually no lag in the new 6.7 turbo setup, which in turn means getting that load up and running faster. That would help in steep-grade pulling I would assume
390 vs 397 hp and 735 vs 765 ft.lbs. torque on a 7000+ lb (light) truck is nothing. Much less towing 10k+. The different transmission ratios will erase any of that anyway, if not through parasitic loss. Kudos to both of them for these engines, especially Ford for doing it themselves.
This will boil down to who's engine is most reliable and fuel efficient. The real world use during the next year or two will be more important than these nearly identical numbers.
