6.7L Power Stroke Engine and DrivetrainDiscussion of the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2011-Up Super Duty trucks. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.7L Power Stroke engine.
i believe he is talking dumping for fuel into system for regen cycle, in which the duramax uses a 9th injector instead.
Like on 6.4's, you dump more fuel for regen cycle, some of it slips past cyl. wall and into oil and dilutes it.
right...and that is why there is an oil life monitor system on the 2011. By computing miles driven, cumulative RPMs, idle time, amount of re-gens...etc....the on board computer will tell you when it is time to change the oil.

both Ford and Chevy are doing the 9th injector now so there will be no more fuel dilution issues.
Not according to any and all of the information that is available -- GM is the only one to use a downstream injection method. This question was explicitly asked of a Ford engineer to which he responded that the 6.7 continues to use in cylinder dosing for the purposes of regeneration.... ergo, the problem of fuel dilution remains.

... and the increased oil change interval, at probably greater than $100 a pop at the dealer, translates into both higher costs of ownership and lower longevity. It does not matter if the flashing dummy light says to change the oil every 2000 miles -- the problem remains and is the result of a poor strategy for regeneration management.
As a side note, I don't know if anyone else has noted the subtle changes to the wording in the Ford promotional literature on the topic of fuel economy. Just a few short weeks ago they were speaking of "segment leading fuel economy" and "best in class". They have backed off on that now, choosing to say "improved economy" and "15% improved from the 6.4".... I wonder how much that has to do with GM's announcements and write-ups on the fuel efficiency of the new Dmax design???????
DPF is particulate removal via filter requiring regen
DEF IS INJECTION OF UREA INTO A CATALYST BED TO LOWER nOx
You get both unless you buy an International 4400.

I'm sorry but three tons in the back of an F350 DRW?? Does anyone even believe that? The 2011 F350 has more payload capability than the 2010 F450?
Bull SH$%!!!!!

I can see that as it is all just a numbers game, the F-450 only ever came in the crew cab configuration with a 14,500# GVWR. Take a Diesel, XL, F-350, regular cab, 4x2, DRW pickup that weighs in at ~6500#'s and give it a 13,000# GVWR and you have a payload capacity of 6500#'s.
Its the cab and chassis that you want to see the high hp numbers they are the real work trucks..Seems stupid to rate them lower.
Explain why?
You hardly need high hp numbers to do large amounts of work, and lower hp will reduce overall wear. Over the road trucks can be rated as low as 450 hp...out of an engine twice the size of ours...moving 80,000#. Its not the power you make, its how you put it to use. My 10hp 39 John Deere will still rip a plow through the earth. If i could hook that plow to my truck......I'd probly spin my tires
