2015 F350 Platinum Lariat (Short bed, 4x4). ~40,000 miles on the clock right now. Engine & drivetrain all stock, apart from added Afe air-filter. It has a leveling kit installed (previous owner) and 35x12.5x20 tyres (again, previous owner).
I am interested to hear people's thoughts on best bang for the buck in terms of improving fuel economy. Most of the time I am not towing. At the moment, when I do tow, it's an enclosed 8'x16' trailer with anywhere between 2 and 4 motorcycles inside (sportbikes, so usually less than 500lbs each), so well within the truck's tow capacity.
When towing I am seeing around 12mpg.
Normal drive pattern (freeway & city) I get around 15-ish.
Now, of course I realise this is not an econobox grocery-getter and I am not expecting 20+ mpg (although, that'd be nice, for sure!).
So, what are your thoughts/recommendations? If there's multiple things you'd do, what order would you do them in and what would you expect in return in terms of improvements? Engine? Transmission? Tires? Suspension?
Bear in mind I will not be messing with emissions equipment or performing any illegal modifications. Although I don't like that stuff, and I'd rather *not* have it, it's there and it's the law. Although the chances are slim that I'd ever be busted if I did remove the emissions crap, all it needs is an observant & diligent inspector during the next smog check and the Federales *could* slap me with fines and/or confiscate the vehicle. Not worth the risk in my opinion. But, please don't turn this into a discussion on emissions, just wanted to keep the discussion on point.
