We went on a 300 mile trip today to Mt. St. Helens with the truck today. Went empty unfortunatly, but I got a good impression of the update. I am VERY happy with it. The transmission is awe some now. The throttle response is great. Even learned something new about how the truck works. I was really impressed with the speed control on, going down a 4% grade that the transmission down shifted to keep the set speed. I was really suprised by that. I didn't have to use the brakes at all the whole trip down hill. Tow haul wasn't engaged. Only real dissapointment was the 18 mpg I averaged. Of course being a DRW and 3.73 gears doesn't help. But my '06 6.0 got at least that good of milage with the 3.73's. The other issue is regens. The truck goes thru a regen every 250 miles. Chev claims 750 miles between regens. That would be acceptable. I filled up for the first time today and used Ford's cetane booster. It went about 270 miles for the regen to start. Too soon to say if it was the cetane booster helping, or that it was because of all hiway miles. I am curious to see how often others are getting regens by region of the country. The Ford diesel class teacher says that across the country, diesel quality varys a lot. I am thinking poor fuel quality has a lot to do with regens. And that is the out for the manufacturers who claim milage between regens. Only other problem with the truck is the drivers side rear window quit working. First mechanical problem I have ever had to take a Ford back for... out of the 6 I have perchased over the years. This truck is the best vehicle I have owned so far. I am loving it.

Are you sure you were getting 18mpg out of your 6.0 dually? Mine gets 13.5 on its absolute best day, if you were getting 18 you had nothing in the bed and possibly had a magic elf sneaking extra fuel in your truck when you weren't looking. Single rear wheels had a hard time getting what u claim. Of course the cummins and d-max guys all claim low to mid 20s but our company must be buying the wrong ones because ours never sniff 20 or anywhere close and all but 1 was a dually, maybe they had a different math teacher. anyway, if you're getting 18 out of a brand new dually, especially one going into regen that often then you shouldn't be using "disappointed" to describe the truck..."amazing" seems like the right word to me.
I drove over 300 miles last week over two mountain passes and got 17.1 mpg with my 05 6.0 with a 4:10 rear also DRW. It has taken a while bet this 6.0 just get better mileage the older it get.

250,000 miles on mine, new injectors, head gaskets, EGT etc...she runs good but 13-13.5 is all I get, the truck has a toolbox on it and a basket full of chains and binders but not enough weight to account for a 4mph difference. Oh well, maybe my engine was built on a Monday. Or, my magic elf died.
My '06 was a SRW. 3.73 gears. On the hiway empty, the lie-O-meter said it got 20.5 mpg. Hand calc it was 19.6 mpg. That was keeping at 65 mph. The duels don't wiegh that much more, and rolling resistance is more no doubt. But I am expecting 19 or 20 when some miles get on it. I had a '96 7.3 and it got more than 20 empty on the hiway.
I shouldn't be dissapointed... going up the mountain we had a 4000 ft. alt. difference

I can believe 18 mpg with the new 2011 dually, as well as the 6.0 dually. I was able to get 15.5 mpg with my stock 6.4 dually on the highway non towing. Now that was also doing 65 mph b/c my boost stayed below 10, but when going faster that 65-70mph, I would get 12.5 - 13.5 on the highway.
On my 01 7.3 4X4 crew cab dually 3:73's I routinely got 20 mpg on the flat empty 65 to 70 mph. Butttttt that was with the old diesel fuel. When Commiefornia required low sulphur diesel fuel the mileage dropped to 17.5/18. When ultra low diesel fuel finally came along, the highway mileage went down to 16 tops.
So my new 6.7 is set up exactly the same as my old 7.3. Even with only 3500 miles on it now, is getting 19 with the ultra low diesel fuel. So I would say this 6.7 gets substantially better mpg than my old 7.3. ------ It will be interesting to see what happens when I change soon to synthetic motor oil and get more miles on the motor. I bet it will easily be a 20 mpg dually again.
I got 99.9 the other day till I had to go uphill!!!!!

That's probably where the difference is, Im at 75mph on the interstates out here in Michigan, 65 gets you run over, ill have to see if 65mph gets me 18 or close to it.
I am currently averaging 18mpg on my 6.7L 2011 Duelly with 3.73's that's with 11,617miles so far. I averaged only 11mpg out of my 6.4L 2009 SRW with 3.73's. I averaged 20mpg out of my 6.0L 2007 SRW with 3.73's though it had a programmer and other mods on the truck. So compared to my 2009 I am very satisfied with my mileage noticed it started climbing after the reflash, hope it keeps going up I could live with a little over 18mpg but 20mpg sure would be ideal for daily driving the big rig. Not bad at all!!!

My 2006 f350 drw, 3.73 6.0L got 14 towing a 5 ton trailer or empty. Didn't really matter, it was almost the same. My 6.7L enjoys a fresh tank every 750-800 kms pretty religously. drw 4x4 3.73 supercab. On that I pull a 14k trailer in town for about 200k of that. I would assume empty I could push almost 1000k on a tank. 800k = 500miles, with 34 gallons = 14.70 mpg. I drive 75 mph to work for almost 30 minutes and 55 for the remaining 15minutes everyday x2. Also, DRW trucks have much smaller tires as the SRW, so the gearing is compounded even more.
I would say driving slower, and not pulling I could get almost 20mpg. But then I wouldn't need a truck
Looking to test drive another 20 Super Duties(W/New Flash) to finalize my thoughts before buying...I'll be back in the Denver Mountains during winter for the ultimate test...Glad Ford did something about the Trany problems, now they need to go for the gold like Duramax(Engine great, Frame strong, Skin Bad) for 2011 and install a 9th injection to solve the diesel dilution problems. My 6.4L averages 18 mpg all day as it is a KR SWD 3.73 has less lag than the 6.7L and gets 22 mpg at 65 mph. Yep Ford needs more that a Flash to solve the most important cause of catastrophic failures I see in Dealer stalls. When the service writer tells you they haven't seen any 6.7L in the shop...walk around the shop to the diesel area...Look, Dumping fuel from the cylinders is not that bad except for the fact that you lose horse power, its not natural diesel physics, and it sounds like hell...and regening every 300 miles is not better than regening every 700 miles unless the regens are lasting 24 hours...Hee, Hee
At least the regen on the new Duramax are not banging the valves.

That must be a heck of an engine you got out of the 6.4 heap. Mine got exactly 10mpg less than your numbers. Could you let everyone know how you can get a 6.4 to get 22mpg

I got 18mpg in my 06 and 07 Dually. They had 3:73 gears and were 6 spd. This was being light on the throttle.
