Problem filling DEF tank

My brothers 2012 f-350 king ranch takes him about a half/hour to pour a 2.5 gallon jug of def in. Anyones 6.7 doing this, and is there a fix for it.

You do have to get it just right to get it flowing, but using Fords fluid with their spout it usually takes less then 5 minutes. But like I said you gotta get it tipped just right then all of a sudden it starts chugging.

He took it to the dealer, they dumped a gallon in(they couldn't get it to fill any faster). He asked me to check here to see if anyone was having problems.

Make sure the breather hose opening is clear, and that the hose is not bent or crimped.

There is a flapper valve at the bottom of the fill tube which can stick closed, especially in the cold. Most likely his valve is only partially open causing the slow fill. Happened to me.....

How did you open it?

I don't like the cheap nozzle that comes with the jugs ,so i have just been useing a funnel when i need to fill it. You can hear it getting close when almost full.

half hour? yeah right.

I put the nozzle in the tank, hold the jug up with one hand, punch a big hole in the top with a knife and take the other 15 seconds to fill the DEF tank.

who has 10-30 minutes? lol thats crazy.

Just filled my DEF Tank for the first time and the process took a few minutes (3-4). As already posted, a funnel and a hole in the jug will make the process even quicker with less spillage when I next do this job.

Just a note....just over 3400 miles and the DEF Tank took all 2.5 gallons.
Did the metric conversions for you!

blue def pumps are showing up around here - I did the jug once and said to heck with that!
almost $7 per gallon - even flying j it's 2.79 per gal at the pump ...

I just fill it up when I see a blue def pump - much easier

That is exactly what I do - although I keep a couple of jugs full since there are not any truck stops with bulk DEF pump around where I live yet. Plus I have it on hand when the DEF tank 1/2 full message pops up I top it off.

Just get the magnet from the gas station manager if it pumps really slow. At least my 2011 doesn't have the magnet on the DEF filler neck... Although one place they didn't know what I was talking about, but I was still able to top it off in minutes by keeping just a little pressure on the handle. An attempt at Full flow resulted in a click and complete shut off...
