Angry Pull over safely

Then about 60 seconds later, dead in the water. 2011 F250 4x4 short bed lariat xtreme. 35,500 miles. No funny noises, nothing out of the ordinary. Fueled up about 50 miles before this happened. Truck wouldn't crank, everything worked, just not the motor. Drove about 500 miles today, about 10 min into the trip this morning had a regen, and mileage never seemed to recover. Usually gets about 18 mpg running down the road at 75, started the day off at 15 and went backwards from there, ended up at about 12 before it quit. I thought it seemed a little down on power, but I figured I was imagining things. Wonder if I didn't have an injector give up. Had it towed to the local dealership where it was purchased new 1yr and 1 week ago, they are saying they "MIGHT" be able to get to it to DIAGNOSE it in 3 weeks or so. 60 thousand dollar truck, which is necessary for me to make a living, and they can't even %*&%(**( look at it for almost a month. Just mailed a check for this months payment ironically. I know stuff breaks, but 3 months out for service is ridiculous. Had to take my wifes Honda in once, for a tranny issue, and they were on it the same day, and we didn't even buy it at that dealer. I am going to speak to the service manager tomorrow to see if 3 weeks is really the word. I'll post up more when I find out what the problem was. Had 7 fords, this is the 4th diesel, FIRST one to leave me walking. Traded 2000 excursion with 7.3 and 250,000 miles a month ago for a new ride for my wife (kicking self) . Not sure what fails with no noise etc to cause it to just shut down, but that is definitely sub-optimal as far as I am concerned. How about next time, you can drive x miles before engine shuts down due to problems etc. CEL came on simultaneously. I HOPE its just a bad sensor and is a quick fix, but time will tell. Anyone else had this problem or one similar?

*** 3 weeks? Can you have it towed to another dealer? It sucks to pay for a tow but you need the truck to make money. The Mack truck dealer near me is also a authorized ford diesel service center. They only sell a couple fords a year. Maybe you have a large truck dealer/service center near you who is a authorized ford diesel service center.

I want to see this resolved for you, Lumpy0935. I can help by arranging a call from the Customer Service Manager in your region. For me to do that, please send a PM with your VIN, contact information, approximate mileage, and dealer name/state.

Cory

Maybe quicker

Spoke to the manager of the service department today. He thinks they can look at my truck tomorrow or Monday, and PROMISES to keep me updated and call me as soon as they know more. We shall see. Cory, I appreciate your offer. If the dealer has failed to make significant progress by Tuesday I will take you up on your offer. The manager told me today that their policy is to give everyone an approx. 3 week time frame with nothing firm so as not to be committed in case they are backed up or have to wait on parts. I don't know if that is the truth or B.S. or if I just got the FNG and that's his standard answer. He said vehicles that are not purchased there go to the end of the line but vehicles purchased there are given priority and mine would move through quickly. We shall see if my definition of quickly is the same as his I guess. Thanks again, I'll post more when I know more.

I'd tell the dealer if 3 week is his standard quote, That he won't see me in the future. Nobody is that backed up. At least not a car dealer. If he is that backed up, He needs to hire more diesel techs.

The wait sucks, but reading about your problem be prepared for the you got bad fuel speech. I hope that is not the case and it is a sensor or other quick fix.

Did you pull a fuel sample?

Not 100,000 mile warranty anymore unless you pay extra for extended coverage

I would say that three weeks is a long time and the truth is that delays are more common than you think and I have been backed up that badly in the past. At the very least my dealer tries to at least look at every vehicle within a day and assess it when we are backed up with work.

As far as hiring more diesel techs, this has become extremely difficult at the dealer level - at least it is with Ford dealers. Finding technicians that are certified is hard enough, finding technicians that WANT to work on diesels and trucks anymore is even harder. Ford has screwed us so badly over the last few years that not many of us are willing to work on them any more. Oh, there are still quite a few of us around and I for one still enjoy specializing in these vehicles and engines.

Finding us is the trick.
