Curious...OP indicated two sensors were bad and had to be replaced. Ford indicated $900 to R+R 2 sensors but reduced to $300. How can 2 sensors being replaced cost almost 2% of the retail cost to have replaced?

So I had both EGT sensors in my truck replaced, and they are BOTH COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I have a lot more miles than you too.
Yeah, I am pretty sure the right service writer can get a lot done under warranty. When I purchased my truck new, I did purchase an Service Plan as I planned to have it serviced at the dealer anyway, but not an Extended Warranty.
In the end, I am very pleased with this truck. I may have sounded a little negative in my posts, but I was also still upset from the truck just shutting down in the middle of traffic and having it towed to the dealer for repair. When the truck just shuts down while driving it is not a very good feeling.
Other than this one issue, I have not had any problems with my truck for the last 52,000 miles. This is still not as good as my wife's Mazda Tribute though, 167,000 miles with only routine maintenance. Maybe I should have gotten a gas model too.
These forums are successful because of people posting for help and sharing their experiences/opinions about the trucks. Most do not post. I don't know the exact numbers, but I am sure the number of lurkers far outnumbers the number of posters.
I had the exact same issue at 52000 miles on mine as well. I do not beleive there is a knock sensor. I have poured over the tech manuals for this engine and have never found a knock sensor. For me it was the middle EGT sensor in the exhaust. The dealer initially said it was not under warranty but then changed his tune and said it was covered till 60000 miles. That being said, I let them change the sensor. The problem is that I tow a large fifth wheel rv through the Smoky Mountains with my family. I can not take a chance of the truck shutting down on me going down a steep grade with a 14000 trailer behind me. All I can say is, now my truck does not have EGT sensors except for the one in the manifold to tell me how hard the engine is working. Best decision ever

Hmm..interesting about the transmission. Mine has never shifted bad, but I have had the double shift feel when shifting from second to third. This only occurs when the truck is cold and I drive it very gently. If I get on it right away, I don't notice the double shift. I believe this is due to the torque converter locking though. Other than that, I have had no issues with shifting.
I didn't have shifting problems either. But I like crisp firm shifts and that is what I have now.

Final update. I picked up the truck on Monday and it is doing fine now. When it went into regeneration this morning, I was very nervous, but the cycle finished with no issues.
The sensors that were replaced were the NOX sensor and one of the EGT sensors. I misunderstood what the service guy said on the phone. Knock sensor sounds a lot like nox sensor.
Anyway, I am glad to have my truck back!! I hated driving the little rental car. I would have just ridden the motorcycle, but the weather did not cooperate and I will not ride in the cold rain. Cold or rain is fine, but both at the same time is unacceptable.

Ok, thanks.
Now to put you in the "hot seat". Say this were to happen again at 2:00 am on a stretch of highway in North Dakota about 100 miles from anybody. Is there away to make the truck run?
Now that his has happened once on a 4 month old truck I am a little concerned to say the least....

there is on the 6.4. A jumper wire off the passenger side battery. Not sure on your model but I wil throw that out there for investigation.

In 30 months and 75,000 miles it has never happened to my truck. So I don't think it is a common occurance. Although it is a pain for those few who have had it happen.
I know Edge Insight displays can display and clear engine codes. Would clearing the code allow the truck to restart? Could it be as simple as giving the sensor a minute or two to cool off and resetting the code?
