Using Stanadyne in the 6.7

I see others recommending different fuel additives for the new 6.7 PSD. I have used stanadyne for 12 years or so in my diesels, was recommend on this site. Is it safe to use Stanadyne in the 6.7, or is there a better additive for cetaine and lubrisity? I have a 2013 F350 ordered, hopefully here soon.

I am torn using any additives based on this read on page 24 in the Diesel supplement 3rd edition. However the next paragraph goes on to sell the use of a motorcraft additive and or equivalent. So go figure.

Fuel quality
It should not be necessary to add any aftermarket additives to your fuel
tank if you use a properly formulated diesel fuel that meets either the
ASTM D975 diesel or the ASTM D7467 B6-B20 biodiesel industry
specifications. Outside of North America, use fuels meeting EN590 or
equivalent local market standard. Aftermarket additives can damage the
injector system or engine. Repairs to correct the effects of using an
aftermarket product in your fuel may not be covered by your warranty.

Diesel fuel conditioner
Additives that will improve fuel cetane numbers may be used to
verify/enhance fuel quality. Use Motorcraft or an equivalent cetane
booster & performance improver as listed in the Maintenance product
specifications and capacities section in this chapter. The customer
warranty may be void from using additives that do not meet or exceed
Ford specifications.

Note: These ultra-low sulfur formulations are designed to meet the
emissions standards for the 6.7L engine and is backward compatible as
well (i.e., can be used in Ford 7.3L, 6.9L, 6.4L and 6.0L diesel engines in
Ford vehicles).

Does Stanadyne make the exhaust smell? My exhaust stinks since I've been using it...

I have not noticed a difference in smell. My last 2 Super Duties have had the 7.3 & 6.0, just smells like diesel to me.

If you are comfortable with it, Why not use it.
The key words in the Ford manual are "exceed
Ford specifications".
As long as it meets or exceeds those specs, you should be fine.

I used the Stanadyne with my 7.3 L But I have found there are other products that are just easier to purchase for me. Stanadyne just isn't very readily available around here. It was always a mail order purchase.

When the 2007 Diesel Power test of additives came out and Opti-Lube was proven one of the best. I started buying Opti-Lube and have pretty much stuck with it. It would be nice to see a 2013 review and see if the other products have improved over the 5 years since the original test was done.

Fuel additives are hard to prove their value. Some folks claim improved fuel mileage, others don't. What ever the manufactures claims are, there is always somebody that basically says it didn't do that for my engine.

I use stanadyne and can't really say it is good or bad. Haven't had any issues so I keep using it religiously. Used it in my '06 and now my '12 KR 6.7.

Ive used diesel Kleen religiously in the last 2 trucks, every other tank, never an issue. Walmart sells it in all sizes, like a 32oz for $17, something like that.

I had a chance to go by my selling dealer on another question and he stated,"you can use a diesel additive if you choose, but most owners opt not to use any"....So, I guess the answer is multiple choice.

I don't use any, but I have a fuel tank in my driveway that has clean diesel in it.

I frequently get the 80oz jug that treats 250 gallons for $10-$12 at my local Farm store. It is always cheaper than Wakmart. And when Power Service had the Ted Nuggent special going with a $5 rebate I stocked up. I use Opti-Lube in my truck, But I use the Diesel Kleen in my skid loader and Mini-Ex and other construction equipment.

I have used Stanadyne since day one so I can't say if there is a difference. The only probems thus far is steering and DEF tank issues.

I just recently stopped using Motorcraft PM-22A. I can't say I've ever seen any increase in mileage (in fact with it MPG is about 0.1 less - but that's too close to call) and maybe it does help with HPFP lubrication, I don't know, but what I can tell you for sure is that my DPF regens occur much less frequently without it. I travel the same 400 mile route every couple of days, week after week, month after month. Without PM-22A, regens occur about every 550 miles; with PM-22A I see a regen every 180 miles, at best. Biggest hit to mileage occurs due to use of winter fuel up here, causing the average to deop from 17.8 to 16.4 MPG.

IMO, you can also ignore any discussion of fuel additives used with the 7.3, 6.0 and 6.4. The 6.7 is a completely different animal.

I've also noted shorter regen frequencies around 200 miles since I've added PM 22A.

It has probably already happened. The message only stays on the display for about 10 seconds.
