08 Nav System / Satellite Radio

Does anyone know if the Nav system requires the little black box on the roof? Or, is it just the Satellite Radio that has to have it? I hate the look of the little "Hockey Puck" stuck to the front roof of the trucks. I am looking at getting the Nav system when I order my new truck, but I don't want a ugly black box on my roof.

Re: 08 Nav System / Satellite Radio

We have the combo Navigation/Sirius/6CD/AM-FM. I think the antenna is built into the window. It was that way with our Silverado. But then it's dark outside & looking at a Dark Stone in a dark RVPark is tough to verify.

I have Nav, Sirius and don't think there is any external antenna. Looks fine.

Re: 08 Nav System / Satellite Radio

Just looked at one last night with Sirius. Puck on the roof required. I prefer the Sirius brand antenna, which is a magnetic mount. I positioned mine just ahead of the rear of the cab and it was only about 1/4 inch high. Impossible to see six inches in front of the rear light on top of the cab. Why the factory puts it next to the cab ligt location is beyond me. It must be a "look here... I have Sirius" advertising ploy for them.

Re: 08 Nav System / Satellite Radio

I have the little portable Sirius radio that I just stuck on the dash of my "04" and just layed the antenae up on the dash beside it. Works fine through the glass. I too, ordered our 2008 with Sirius(cannot imagine going back to old fashioned radio) and yup, that little puck is right beside the clearance lights.
