I thought with the zero percent interest I might trade my '99 in. I want a six speed super cab but can't sem to find one in the Reno area. Lots and lots of autos. Has anyone heard of a reason for the lack of '02 six speeds? I would order one but it wouldn't be delivered until after the end of the month and the zero percent may be gone.
Thanks for your help.
From what i've heard most dealers will not keep in a six speed only autos. That is unless someone orders one then doesnt take it. Sounds pretty stupid to me most people that tow alot of weight want a six speed. OH WELL

Strokin most of the people that are looking for 6-sp for towing dont want to have to upgrade the tranny before they drive it off the lot based on the info that I have been able to glean from this and other websites tells me to stay away from an automatic. If you want to tow heavy they cant handle the tourque of the diesel and they grenade. A truck that may tow occasionally it is ok but if you want to use your truck to tow then get a manual the salesmen will say oh not a problem but I would rather shift my own gears thankyou and I shouldn't have to search the country for one or be made to wait forever either. I had to drive 550 miles to get mine. Out of 8 dealers in the metro Phx area only one used one that had a butchered door. Got told by Sanderson Ford they never order them on to the lot unless it is special ordered. I ordered one from a different dealer and never sawit, have no idea what happened to it, so drove to get one. Great for towing, especially in the mountains.

When I went to buy a F250 manual, the dealer (Prestige Ford in Bellevue, WA) was able to find three rigs with manuals, but all of them had the electric shift on the fly 4WD. Since I wanted a manual transfer case to go with my manual tranny, I had to special order.
When I asked the dealer why there were so few manual trannys available "on the lots", they tried to explain that hardly anyone wants a manual transmission. I guess that makes me a little strange...
My point: You will probably have to special order...

Went to my dealer on Tuesday, looking for a crew,short,4x4, 6spd. He said that he could get one because dealers don't want them on their lots.. He said that the $800 you save now will cost you $3000.00 at trade in :-( He said that you better keep the truck for a long time. I rarly keep one for more than 2 years

Yep. It's called supply and demand. Very few folks want a manual. Heck, very few folks anymore can even drive a manual!
My last pickup was a hand shaker. 5 speed manual. It's the only vehicle I've had in the last 45 years that I couldn't sell for more than wholesale. I finally had to give up and trade it in to my Ford dealer at wholesale - after 6 weeks of trying to sell it. Bummer.

I agree with him. Unless you're lucky, you'll probably take a beating if you trade it in after 2 years.
Dealers won't stock them because they won't sell. So if you prefer to buy a hand shaker, then plan ahead.

We have 23,000 campers a year through our campground. You can't believe the number of folks that wanted a stick but settled for an auto because they could not find one. Most are unhappy with the auto and many have put lots of mony in them especially the 99's with crappy torque converters in them. I have a 95 with a 5 spd and have 112,000 miles on it and never spent a dime on it. I know of a lot of auto owners with less miles that have had rebuilds to the tune of $2,500.00! Fo me, I'll shift my own gears. If it's worth less at trade in i broke even anyway cuz i did not have to rebuild it.

There were quite a few that I found on the lots in the Billings, MT region last year when I bought mine. I checked with three small-town dealers and one big town. The small-town guys seem to want the business more. My local dealer found the one with options I wanted and had it shipped up.
The local guys up here say it's about half & half (autos vs. manuals), so you might ask your dealer to ask around. My father and I stopped going to the dealers in the cities and started going to the small-town lots about ten years ago. We would drive about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes outside Tucson to get better deals.

My 02 Lariat CC DRW is due off the train in about two more days!My dealer said I could pick it up at the train yard this time, the first out of six.
Ford dealer here in Wichita has a 2002 white F250 XLT extended cab LWB 4X2 with a hand shaker sitting on his lot if anyone is looking for one. Shoot me an e-mail and I can give you the dealer information and a very nice salesman to deal with and "NO" I'm not related or employed by them in any way, just a very happy customer of their's. Tim
