Here is the link to the 2008 Ford Superduties. Surprisingly, the towing capacity for the Ford 350 has dropped wrt 5th wheel and the associated GCWR. Even the max payload numbers have dropped. As a result, my 2008 order for a F350 SRW is being changed to a F350 DRW with tow boss. I no longer have a safety margin and exceed 3 out the 4 ratings for a SRW. Oh well, rather find out now before my order arrives.

You're not reading something right. Comparably equipped 2007 and 2008 F-350 DRWs have exactly the same GCWR and GVWR.
With PSD engine and 4x4 drivetrain:
GCWR = 23,500 with 3.73 or 4.10 axle, 26,000 with the 4.30 axle.
Max GVWR = 13,000 pounds.
If you are on the borderline of being overloaded without the TowBoss pkg in a 2008 model, then you would also have been on the borderline of being overloaded without the TowBoss pkg on a 2007.

You're right. I did assume since he was thinking of a TowBoss he had decided the F-350 DRW with 4.10 rear axle didn't have enough capacity. But when discussing the SRWs, I'll have the same answer. The GCWR and GVWR of the 2008 F-350 SRW is identical to the GCWR and GVWR of the identically-equipped 2007 F-350 SRW.
Ford did fine-tune the almost-useless "tow rating" by a coupla hundred pounds, but no one should rely on those numbers anyway. They are not realistic. The only way to compute a realistic tow rating and payload capacity is to weigh a new pickup after you have it equipped the way you plan to travel, including loaded with tools, jacks, driver, passengers, fuel, trailer hitch, bedliner and other things you'll probably have in the truck. Then subtract the weight of the wet and loaded truck (without a trailer) from GCWR to get the real tow rating, and subtract the weight of the wet and loaded truck from GVWR to get net available payload capacity.
Just to clarify: I agree that from 2007 to 2008, the GVWR and GCWR did not change but Ford pre-released data for the 2008 SRW F350 that put it at GCWR of 23,500 and a max payload of 4,250 (data is on the FordF150.net site). Since I was in spec, I ordered the SRW. Found over the weekend the official 2008 Ford Towing Guide that the 2008 GCWR did not increase and that the max payload went down to 3,640. Due to my pin weight, a SRW will not work. Hence, the need to adjust my order to a DRW today. Annoyed as I pushed my receipt date to the right based on previous information.

2008 F-350 King Ranch DRW, Tow Boss, 4x4, Navigation, DVD, Oxford White, (i.e. everything but sunroof) (mine on Mar 6)
The GVWR and GCWR did not change, only the curb weight went up for the new emission equipment etc. Ford still has the top tow ratings of all the pickup models.
Anyone know where we can get the 2008 Source Book as referenced in the payload guide so we can see what weight all the options will also reduce the 3640 lb payload for the F350 4x4 CC LB?

Thanks Bobby, but I still didn't find anything in that PDF that gave me weights of optional equipment or option packages? Did I miss something?
Does anyone have a good idea of what a loaded 07 F350 SRW Lariat 4x4 CC LB w/ 6.4L/Auto weighs when optioned-up? I could use that as a starting point for the 08, unless Bobby can point me in a better direction. I guess there are some real differences in frame and emmissions equipment that could affect the 08 payload.
Damn... I'm close to pulling the trigger on an order but I need to nail down my available payload to be certain I can live w/ the F350 SRW and I just got to have the goodies too
Link doesn't work for me @ 07:20 your time, Tuesday morning. I don't see anything wrong with the URL, so it must be a huge file. If you have the entire SuperDuty Pickup section of the Truck Source Book in one file, that is a really big file.
HTML file? Could you change it to a PDF so it would be easier for your customers to print out selected pages?
Oh, and Bobby, thanx for all you do for the members of TheDieselStop. I trust that enough of us are throwing you some business that it makes it worth your time and effort and expense on continuing to be a sponsor of TheDieselStop, and maintaining your website for all us poor beggars to use free of charge. Yeah I got the same result a number of times until I got through last night. The url is just a web pages that has various PDF download links on it. The PRELIMINARY 2008 SD Source Book has been added and yes it was like 80 pages long and took a few minutes to grab with my DSL connection. I'm gonna feel stupid when someone points out that the option weights are included somewhere inside and I just didn't see em. Hopefully, the web page will be up soon.
Thanx, Bobby. The link works now. And it's a PDF file. Great!
For those that don't already know, the Source Book is intended to be used by Ford Salespersons to answer any technical questions a customer might ask. The pro salespersons will have that puppy almost memorized within a few days of when it hits his desk. Unfortunately, Ford doesn't usually deliver the hard copy to the dealers until a month or so after the model year has already began. But it's nice to see that the Ford dealerpersons that care can access it on the web. Since the version Bobby posted for us is a PDF file, it's also very easy to print out your own copy. The SuperDuty pickup part is only 72 pages long. Mine is printing as I write this.
