Any news on the 4.5L engine?

Saw on BON that Job 1 for the 4.5L Diesel in the Expedition is November. What does this really mean? When will I be able to order one and when will the ordering guides be available? Thinking of downsizing from my F250 and really want to stay with a diesel.

thx,
John

Re: Any news on the 4.5L engine?

I really want a 4.5L V-6 in a RANGER SUPERCAB, but I guess I'd settle for a '02 F-350 instead. Paid a visit to my Local Ford dealer last night. Bought My truck and Son's used '93 Lightning from him in the last 5 years. Guess I won't be going back there any more. Didn't take Long for Him to explain the fact He didn't want to deal AT ALL! Oh Well, Just like car salesmen say "there's another Sucker due thru that door any second", I guess I can say "There's How many THOUSAND FORD dealers left in the Mid-West"? I'm even taking My Wife to look at a Dodge tomorrow!

Re: Any news on the 4.5L engine?

When we visited the International Truck & Engine plant in Indianapolis the day before the KTP plant tour, the folks there told us that the 6.0 V8 diesel and the 4.5 V-6 diesel would be available in September, 2002. They showed us some of the areas within the engine plant where the new engines would be built.

The 6.0 will replace the 7.3 in the SuperDuty trucks and Excursions. The 4.5 will NOT be available in a SuperDuty but only in F-150 and Expedition-type lighter-duty vehicles. Don't expect the 4.5 V6 to be available in Ranger/Explorer size vehicles - at least at first until the front ends of those can be changed - because it's too heavy for the front suspensions in those smaller "trucks".
