Re: Anyone with a 6spd truck on order have a build date yet?
The dealers I've talked to here tell me they don't order 6spds anymore, Too hard to sell. One sales manager told me that in the Raleigh/Durham market they sell 15-20 autos for every 6spd. This same person told me that if I see a 6spd on the lot it was because they had to take it to get something that they really wanted.
With that said, I guess we are definitely in the minority. I just hope they don't stop making them all together.
On a funny note, One of the salesmen told me that he could sell every 6spd he could get his hands on and the reason the lot was full of autos was because they didn't sell as well as 6spds. I asked him then why he had one on the lot that had been there for weeks. He had no answer. The sales manager who was standing next to him just rolled his eyes and shook his head. What a great moment..
p.s. that was two weeks ago and that truck still shows up in the online inventory.

ORDERED 9/20/02 STILL NO BUILD DATE NOR VIN# FOR THAT MATTER. DEALERS SAYS HE EXPECTS IT IN LATE JAN. OR EARLY FEB. (JUST DEALERS SPECULATION TO KEEP ME CALM!!) Re: Anyone with a 6spd truck on order have a build date yet?
My sales guy said that after the regional sales mngr called about my order the word he got back was they had resovled the issues with the diesel manual tranmission and were going to schedule these in the factory. He received a VIN # for me last Thursday so it did make it to the factory. Have no idead about build date / delivery status or date.
That was the word I got. Very generic you might say.
By the way. I spoke to as many friends and aquatances as I could find about my selection of transmission. One guy at work who did want auto and purchsed on {a 2002 with 4EOD} says that he added a larger tranny cooler for it and was still concerned about the future of his tranission. Of course the new 5auto sounds like quite a re-design. I had a couple of utility dirvers {some put on 500 miles a day} tell me 6-speed, a friend at the ski resort said 6-speed only. I wanted a 6-speed but at the same time was concered that the new 5auto was so good that I was going to be unhappy.
I guess the 5auto is better than the old 4auto for sure, but am still happy about the 6-speed. Just NOT going to let some parking lot attendant drive it. Last time I did that they put my other vechile {not a SD} in reverse and oh-yah did not use the cluch {this is no joke}. To this day I can still hear the sound.
Re: Anyone with a 6spd truck on order have a build date yet?
Hmm.. Transmission selection, I'm sure someone will read this and think that I'm picking on them or slamming auto transmissions (which I'm not) but...
I have pretty strong feelings about my transmission choices. I choose to drive manual transmission vehicles exclusively. Matter of fact, I have never owned a car with an automatic transmission. I personally like being more involved with the driving experience (aka - control freak).
OK, I can hear folks saying to themselves, "You'll want an automatic when You're older".. Well, I'm not young and my father who is in his 60s also refuses to own a vehicle with an auto so I guess I come by it honestly..
The thing I'm really tired of honestly is the looks of horror I get when I tell anyone that I prefer a stick. Especially from car salesmen.
This really isn't a rant.. I just wish more vehicles were available with manual transmissions and I'll be glad to see a few of the new trucks get on the lot with the 6spd. Can't wait to drive one!
If you find out the reason for the hold I'd love to know. Also when you get your truck I'll be real interested in knowing how you like it.
Re: Anyone with a 6spd truck on order have a build date yet?
The reason you get looks of horror from the salesman is that whatever hope they had of tricking you into buying a car off the lot and getting a big fat commission *NOW* just disappeared, since nobody generally has sticks on the lot.
I don't mind a stick. I drove a 1960 Land Rover as my daily driver for 11 years until just recently, which was "stickS" (overdrive was a separate lever.) But they've come a long way with automatics too, and I don't begrudge most people their preference for them in this day and age.

Re: Anyone with a 6spd truck on order have a build date yet?
I'll second DieselAddict's opinion. It is almost impossible to find a good car or truck today with a stick, and when you do find one they limit your choices so much (no XLT sport package with a stick ) that it is hard to buy the vehicle you want. I wish the American car manufactures would go back to the alacart method of options thay used in the past, instead of the package deals they use now to drive up the prices. Thank the imports for the buy a "package" and it will save you money on things you don't want sales plan. Why should I have to pay over $1000 for a transmission I don't want????? To stay on topic: Ordered early October and no Vin# or build date yet.
Re: Anyone with a 6spd truck on order have a build date yet?
I like hand cranks to start an engine too. It makes you feel like you're more a part of the driving experience. Especially when you get your shoulder half yanked off. And forget those electric mirrors. It's better to get out in the rain & adjust them.
Re: Anyone with a 6spd truck on order have a build date yet?
Hey! My 1960 Land Rover had a hand crank! And when the starter slagged down one time, I used it for 2 days while a new one was shipped to me from Rovers North! You sure become aware of just how often you stop and restart your vehicle, heh...

Re: Anyone with a 6spd truck on order have a build date yet?
Yeah, we had one on a 1967 Renault Dauphine !!! 1967 !!! Can you believe that ?! We had to use it once in a while too, though we could have push-started it almost as easily.
