BobbyW or Cochise....VIN#?

First of all I would like to thank the both of you for the prompt reply on my earlier question on build location. Had I not already been working with a salesman at my dealer, I would have gladly tossed a coin and bought a truck from one of you. I probably will with the next one.

Anyway, I ordered a truck last week from my local dealer and he told me that they would not see a VIN# until they got a build date. Now either they don't know what they are talking about or you guys are making up VIN#'s as a way of entertaining yourselves. Anyway, could you tell me how my dealer can go about getting the VIN# so I can sleep better knowing my truck will be built in Kentucky although I'm not sure how much better that really is than Mexico. Thanks in advance,

Re: BobbyW or Cochise....VIN#?

Stacey -- Your dealer will not receive a complete 17 digit VIN until the unit is scheduled for production. As such, the VIN's you see posted by Bobby or Cochise are for units which have been scheduled. As a small dealer, most of our production is scheduled on Thursday or Friday and we receive the VIN the following morning. Bobby and Cochise are both fleet managers for very large dealers and apparently have units scheduled throughout the week.

Got a VIN #, but no build date. Is there a way to get a build date with the VIN #. Any help is most appreciated.

Just be patient. That's normal to get the VIN first and then the build date. I got my build date less than a week after the VIN.

OK,

The above quote is where I got the idea that one could get a VIN# before the build date. Do the terms "build date" and "scheduled for production" relate to the same thing? If so, then I am officially confused after reading the posts by ShowMe69 and WillSD. Someone please clarify.

Re: BobbyW or Cochise....VIN#?

Stacey -- You can have a complete 17 digit VIN and no build date. I currently have two units with such a scenario; one is a 2001 F150 SuperCrew which is scheduled but has a build week of 99/99 and the other is a 2002 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 DRW which is scheduled but has no build week and a status of "Temp Delay".

In summary, you can't have a complete VIN until you've been scheduled for production but you can be scheduled for production with no build date. Don't you just love it!

Re: BobbyW or Cochise....VIN#?

Is "Temp Delay" just what it says because that is the status of my order as we speak. I have a VIN but no build date. I ordered a 350 Lariat and guess the Temp Delay means they may not have everything to build this particular truck just yet?? I waited over six months for my 99 but with Bobby Williams handling the deal this time, I am positive it will be hear as fast as it can be made to happen.
