built ford tough trailer hitch

so on the build your truck page on fomoco web site, when you order the trailer hitch, is that what used to be called the trailer towing package? ttp combined the hitch along with the 7 pin/ 4 pin connectors. does this also come with the built ford tough trailer hitch? thanks...

Re: built ford tough trailer hitch

The tow package is standard on the SD. I believe that the trailer hitch is standard too, but I'll be damned if I can find anything from Ford that says that.

Re: built ford tough trailer hitch

The "tow package" is now standard. The hitch, at least as of when I ordered my 2003 truck last year, was still an option. If you don't get it, I'm not sure what state the trailer wires are in, i.e. whether they have connectors on them, but they would be tucked up under the bed.

The Excursion gets the hitch by default though - it's used as the rear equivalent to the "Blocker Beam" up front.

Duncan is right. The trailer tow pkg - in other words, the wiring harness and required relays to make the trailer wiring all work - is standard on SuperDuties and X-Cars. The receiver is optional on SuperDuties and standard on X-Cars. If you don't order the receiver hitch on a SuperDuty, the wires for the trailer plugs are tied up under the rear end near the bumper.

My '04 came with a 7-pin round and a 4-pin flat connector wired up, ready to go, hanging from the rear bumper. On my '99, I had to do a little wiring as Smokey said to hook up a 7-pin (it came with a flat 4). I didn't order the factory reciever on my '04 it is rated too low for what I want to do.

Also of note, the electric brake controller from my '99 plugged right into the same connector under the dash of my '04. Probably the fastest aftermarket parts swap I've ever done.

Sorry, just caught this insult (I think).

I had an X-CAR.

Not the same as my PSD.

Please don't call my X an X-CAR
