Built a truck online, invoice price = price I should pay?

I test drove a new '08 PSD the other day and got a price on it with my trade. They gave me a paper with all the truck's info and immediately offered it at invoice price (shown on the paper). Now I built a truck online and gave them that info. Again, the invoice price of $45,890 as stated on my build was offered to me with no questions. Is that the price I should pay or can they do better? All that is left now is to get the most out of my trade in and wait until Sept. to get the newest rebates. This is my first new truck purchase and any help is appreciated.

Re: Built a truck online, invoice price = price I should pay?

Note: Posted at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, so this one might disappear as part of the server cenversion!

Dealer's invoice cost, plus you get all the Ford rebates/incentives available on the date of delivery, is about as good as it gets without an X-Plan PIN. Most dealerpersons will easily agree to $500 over invoice, and negotiate down to zero over invoice. But getting them to agree to less than invoice is like pulling hen's teeth.

Most dealers include documentation fee preprinted on the contract, and they'll swear that it's part of every contract. If your dealerperson pulls that shenanagan, then simply tell them you will pay invoice minus documentation fee. Then when they "automatically" add back in the documentation fee, you'll be getting it for invoice.

In Texas another "automatic" line on the invoice is "inventory tax". Yes, the dealer has to pay inventory tax on vehicles in inventory on certain dates, but that's a cost of doing business. If you dealer wants to include that on your contract, then go for even less below invoice as the buying price.

In a nutshell, you should be able to write the check for invoice price plus TT&L. TT&L is a whopper in some states, so hold onto your britches! Just be sure TT&L does not include ADP such as "inventory tax" or documentation fee.

(ADP = "additional dealer profit".)

But if you aren't going to buy or order on Monday, than get an X-Plan PIN and save another coupla hundred bucks. Plus on an X-Plan deal, the dealer is not allowed to add any ADP items such as documentaion fees.

Getting an X-Plan PIN is not all that difficult. Simply state on TheDieselStop that you need one and a Ford employee or retiree will probably respond with your very own X-Plan PIN. Read the stickie at the top of this forum about AXZ Plan to get educated about X-Plan.

If you can't get x plan join a credit union. They will help you purchase for $100 $200 over invoice.
