Hi first time user. The question I have is I like the up grades that there doing in the 2002 's but would I get a better discount with a 2001 or is it going to be hard to find the exact vehicle I want? I also can get the x plan,I work for a dealer that owns a ford store so i'll be buying there of coarse. They will probably fall out of the chair when they see my pin #. Is the x plan 1.0% under invoice? This is going to be my first psd I can't wait? Thanks to this site I learn everyday. Thanks to all that apply
Jon
Jon L -- Why would you use "X" Plan?? Seems to me the dealer would offer you invoice less 'holdback'?? Anyway and easy way to get close to the invoice is take 12% off the bottom line sticker and also 5% off the bottom line for dealer holdback. Are you sure your dealer will allow you to use the "X" Plan?? Oh yea, go for the 2002

If your dealer gives you a problem you might consider giving Cochise or Bobby Willians a call. They can have it drop shipped to you. Notice Marks sig. above.
Take care and good luck.

Hi, Jon, and Welcome! to Ford-Diesel.com.
Only you can answer whether you can find a 2001 that you'd like.
As to 2001 vs 2002, if you plan to keep the truck for more than 5 years, then the 2001 might be your best bet from a pure dollars and sense veiwpoint.
But if you can get the X-plan on a 2002 then it would probably be the best deal in the long run. After 3 or 4 years, the 2002 will be worth more than the 2001. After only a year or two, the 2002 would be worth a lot more than the 2001.
Generally, the only time it's best to buy "last year's model" is if you plan to keep it "forever".

I special-ordered it new and plan to drive it until it quits.
Research other postings here and you will see that the A-plan for employees is 5.43% below invoice and the X-plan is 4% above the A-plan.
The result should be (Invoice)x(1-.0543)x(1+.04)= (Invoice)x.98353
which is 1.647% below invoice.
I would do this calculation after subtracting the destination charge and then add back the destination. The destination charge might not be discounted. If it is, you will save another $11-$12. Not worth worrying about at this point.

I am in the same boat. I can get a new '01 PSD for $200 over invoice and then a $1000 off of that on the Ford rebate. Suddenly F250 SC 4X4 shortbeds have disappeared in Phoenix. My dealer has a F350 (Mexico truck) XLT demo w/325 miles on it that has everything I want except CD. He has two F250's on the lot (the last in Phoenix, I guess) but they don't have privacy glass, keyless entry or sliding rear window. Both are that funny berry red color that I hate. Plus, my wife is afraid of the truck. What to do, what to do. Maybe I should wait for the '02, but I won't get this deal. Pressure is on.

Jon, I was facing the same question. I qualify for the "A" plan and was shuffling 2001 or 2002. I have never ordered one and didnt need the truck immediately so I ordered the 2002. JUST LIKE I WANTED IT !!!!
It will be a few months but I cant wait. If you have any questions, Cochise is da man. I read alot of hipe about Cochise when I found this board but let me tell you, he knows his stuff.
Go ahead and get the 2002. LOL. You will have to make that decision.

Here is what I got from www.carsdirect.com on the Platinum Edition which is a special Lariat truck.
Platinum Edition Package :
• Solid Chrome Finish Front Bumper .
• Deep Platinum Grille Insert .
• Standard Chrome Tubular Running Boards .
• Deep Platinum Trailer Tow Mirror Heads .
• Silver Metallic Door Handles .
• Custom Platinum/Paint Stripe .
• Platinum Tu-Tone Leather Luxury Captain?s Chairs .

By the way, why should anyone pay $200 over invoice, given the information available on this site? The X-plan does not prevent you from getting the "rebates" that Ford gives for incentives. You get the X-plan price plus the additional rebates if any.

Thanks for the info on the Platinum - sounds like a PSD ghetto cruiser to me.
I hate to be the retard here, but this x-plan and a-plan is greek to me. I looked around on the site and found the EAA.ORG link. Is that for real?? It's 40$ to join and I hate aircraft, but if it will get me a better deal I'll do it. I'll keep searching and try to get educated, but if you can lead me by the nose, I would appreciate it. thanks.

Woodworker told you want it is, but he didn't tell you the whole story.
The Platinum Edition was produced only in early CY 2001 and was available only to Ford Dealers in Texas and Oklahoma. The 2-tone is different - instead of having the silver only on the very bottom it is about halfway up the side of the truck. The exterior sunvisor is the same one they put on the Lariat LE. They came only on F-250 CrewCab shorty 4x4s. The "platinum" color is a dark grey, so it's really dark grey over silver. The 2-tone silver&grey leather interior is really spiffy.
Gene Louder has 3 of them left. Ford sorta twisted his dealer's arm and made them take 4. They sold one so far. The others he'll sell for invoice - maybe less. About $45,000 list and about $38,000 cash buying price. Good deal if you happen to want an F-250 CrewCab shorty 4x4 Lariat with all the toys. You can contact Gene at 1-800-953-3321.

Thanks for the extra info on the Platinum Edition, Smokey. I can navigate the web pretty well but my Ford history needs some work.
With respect to the EAA, they are a real organization. I work with someone who has been a member for years. He flies an ultra light which he carries around on custom, home built ramps attached to the bed of his diesel pickup (not an SD, one of those older bowtie models).
He and his wife are both members and use the membership to get themselves onto the flightline for some air shows in Florida. I have seen his membership card and he enjoys the group magazine.
Membership is $40 for an individual and $50 for a family.
Simply put, EAA members can get a truck for about 1.6% below invoice. For a $30K truck, that savings is $480-$50(EAA membership) = $430 below invoice. This would be a good deal.
