First off, Welcome to ford-diesel. You've already discovered it's one of the best sites around!
Second, I'd recommend perusing this forum, Ordering Information, for many tips on where to get trucks for good prices and how to do it. If you're looking at $40K for a truck, you will be paying way more than most of us have.

quote:
Originally posted by PADZZ: Is there a dealer (in the west) that sells Fords for that cheap??

Lots of Ford dealers will order you a new 2001 for $500 over invoice. How much is invoice depends on your selection of options. See below.

quote:
And why should I get the Ford over the Dodge...advantages/disadvantages...the major selling point is the full size cab/4 doors.

The back seat in a Dodge extended cab is not useable for adults or big kids. The back seat in a Ford CrewCab is wonderful!
Dodge is about 20 years behind Ford and GM in making 3/4-ton pickups that are pleasant to ride in on long trips. I've been from Texas to New York and back in mine, and it was a very pleasant drive. I would not want to drive a Dodge anywhere near that far.
Independent consumer rating agencies such as Consumer Reports say the frequency of repair on Dodges is much worse than average while the Ford is average.

quote:
What would be a good price on a F250 Crew Cab in XLT trim? I don't want to pay over $40,000 OTD.

Depends on options. Here's the equivalent of mine with 2001 prices:
Invoice
Price Code Option
24162 W20 CrewCab 4x2 LWB XLT
4012 99F diesel
931 449 automatic
243 XC1 limited slip rear axle
314 18L cab steps
47 592 roof clearance lights
85 54E power TTT mirrors
85 924 privacy glass
128 86R class IV trailer hitch receiver
n/c --- trailer tow pkg
149 64F polished alloy wheels
107 443 sliding rear window
n/c 58K AM/FM tape and single CD player
n/c --- 4-wheel ABS
178 96P auxilary idle control kit
33 --- some fuel - required on all invoices
80 --- FDAF - required on all invoices - amt varies
----------
$30,554 invoice price - might be a little more because of FDAF in your region
500 gross over invoice
-----------
$31,054 check to dealer, not including TT&L
========
If you find a 2000 model with those options on a dealer's lot, you could probably buy it for about the same price. Then you wouldn't have to wait for your order to come in. If you find a 2001 model like that one on a dealer's lot, you'll probably have to add at least $500 to the above price, and maybe $1,000 or more.
TT&L varies from a few hundred to a few thousand - depending on state, county, city, other taxing entities. I'm pretty sure in Utah you'd be several thousand below $40k out the door.

Hey, thanks for the responses. I will be pulling a 28' (think) Toy hauler loaded with 3 ATV's and supplies.
Actually a loaded Lariat is around 38K +..they of course add a bunch of b.s. charges on there. I'm quite sure I'll be going out of town, if not out of state.
Wren, awesome price! I see yours is not 4X4, how much is that option off the top of your head. I will need it since we get over 12" of snow regularly here in the winter.
Thanks again, Drew.

$2,704 for 4x4 with manual hubs. Add $136 for electronic shift on the fly [ESOF]. Add another $107 for BSW all-terrain tires or $370 for oversize 265/75R16 OWL all-terrain tires.
If you want to go on up to Lariat leather trim 4x4, then the add another $3,749 to the $31,054 price for my XLT 4x2. Add the ESOF and bigger ATs, and you're at about $35,309 plus TT&L. Probably still quite a bit less than $40k OTD.

I ordered an '01 F-250 Lariat SC 4x4 SB 6-spd for $300 over plus $100 drop ship. Came out to around $33,150. A CC with auto would have been around $35,000.
Las Vegas is $1500 over invoice,St. George Ford is $1500 over,Cheney Wa. by Spokane is $100 over, and the Ford dealer in Moab,Utah is 2% over. This is for ordered trucks and if you do a search here you can find many dealers at $500 over, yup I have been doing a lot of research. Oh yea one more, the dealer in Needles, Ca. will deal, ask for the owner or his son.

Hello:
Could you tell me the name of the dealer in WA, looking to order in OR or WA and fly up and drive back. Still registered in OR and no sales tax.
Paul

I ordered my truck from Titus-Will Ford in Tacoma, WA. Number is 1-800-637-6876, ask for Tunya, the fleet manager. She'll sell you a 2001 Crew Cab for $300 over invoice. My drop ship fee to my local dealer was $150, so total of $450 over invoice. Total price, $31,852.40. My build date was Aug. 14 and it just got to my dealer's lot today.

First off awesome site. This site alone may help me with my decisions.
Anyway, I'm gettinmg a new truck, hopefully F250 Crew Cab. I want the Ford and my wife wants the Dodge. I know in Kellogg, Idaho I can get a loaded Cummins for around 31,000 which is about 6-7000 cheaper than here, so I am willing to travel. Is there a dealer (in the west) that sells Fords for that cheap?? And why should I get the Ford over the Dodge...advantages/disadvantages...the major selling point is the full size cab/4 doors.
What would be a good price on a F250 Crew Cab in XLT trim? I don't want to pay over $40,000 OTD. I did drive a 6spd Cummins and it had lots of power..how does the PSD compare. I think I want the auto though. Sorry for such a long post...especially for a first post.
You may want to consider the new Chevrolet diesel that should be out soon. I dont know how it compares with the ford or dodge but it's an option I would atleast consider. I have traditionally been a ford man starting with an 84 F-250 Diesel.......I've had 5 or 6 new ones since then. My current truck is 99 Superduty which I have been less than impressed with. I had to chip it to make it run as hard as my 96. My brake master cylinder started leaking, my air box allows snow and water into the filter area, my brake rotors are warped, the trust angle was wrong from the factory which quickly ruined the first set of tires, the front suspension squeeks like a 1940 packard, and to top it off Ford has TSB's for many of these issues but refuses to do anything to my truck because I'm out of the 3/36 waranty period. I had ordered a 2000 PSD to rid myself of these nagging problems and because I needed more GVWR, but when the new truck came in it had a severe case of the engine knock. Maybe I just got a lemon this time I hear many satisfied PSD owners and in the past I have been very please. But at this point my confidence in ford has been shaken.
Good Luck with whatever you chose.

I just ordered a 2001 F-250 Crew Cab 4X4 V-10 from Westland in Ogden Ut. I paid 1,200 over invoice and don't think there's much chance I could have done better. The intermountain west is the worst place in the country to buy a super duty. With the allocation on the Crew Cab the dealers are in no way struggling to sell them. Best I could do on a 2000 was 1700 over invoice. I could only find (2) 2000 F-250 Crew Cab's with V-10's on the wasatch front. Have a frien with a Dodge that want's a Ford.
Sea Tac Ford in Seattle is $300 over invoice on 2001's-no questions asked.
I had a fleet rep tell me that Ford "over sold" the 2000 Super Duties by 20,000 trucks. I know the car lots up here are loaded. The 2001's will be coming slow as a result.
Also, Jeff Johnson at Thomason Auto Group in Beaverton,Oregon said that he would sell me an ordered or instock unit for invoice. Of course, be ware of the dealer packs better known as garbage fees. www.thomason.com.
