Camper Package

I have ordered a new F350 Dually PSD. No build date yet. My question is should I get the camper package? I will towing a 5er with this truck. What is included in the camper package?
Thanks.

Re: Camper Package

Mort,

The Camper Package has a slide in camper certification, heavier front springs, and in my opinion the most important thing, a rear antisway bar. I added it to my truck and am glad that I did. The 160 bucks, list, are well worth it. Can't get a sway bar alone for that.

Re: Camper Package

Have the camper package on my 99.5' 350 SRW and didn't have to think twice when I ordered it on my 01' 350 DRW. Get it!

Re: Camper Package

Now that the 2002 ordering guides are out (Thanks Cochise and BobbyW) I will be ordering a F350/PSD/SC/LB/4x4 soon and have a question.

I will be doing light snow plowing (I know Ford does not recommend it) and other times towing a 5er. Which is better to order ,, the Camper / Heavy Service / or Max Front GAWR package ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Camper Package

Well now that the 2002 order guide is out, I got to start getting my ducks in a row. I want front and rear stabilizer bars but also would like a steering damper. Will I have to order Camper Package (532) and either the Suspension Package (674) or Max. Front GAWR Package (682) to get these?

Re: Camper Package

Thanks Stan, I didn't see that the Damper was available with the Off Road Package. I am going to get that for the skid plates if nothing else. This will give me the mounts for a good aftermarket damper anyway.

Re: Camper Package

You get all the goodies if you order the camper pkg. and the offroad pkg. You can also order the Max. Front GAWR, but you will get nothing for it. All the items in that pkg are duplicated with the camper and offroad pkg., although the CONCEPS computer will still accept it. You won't even get a credit for the overlap. I know, I ordered it hoping to get the x springs. However the dealer put them in at his cost due to a prior agreement we had made.

Re: Camper Package

Traildust, I think you can only order one of the three suspension packages at a time. I think most people order the Offroad package to get the steering stabilizer.

My personal recommendation would be to get an aftermarket steering stabilizer. I replaced my factory steering stabilizer with a Rancho and it works alot better.

Why not get the best of both worlds?

Instead of the pickup, order the F-350 SRW SuperCab chassis cab. With that, you can get the snowplow pkg., so your snowplowing will be covered by the Ford Factory warranty.

[You cannot get the snowplow pkg on the SuperCab pickup with a PSD engine, but you can get it on the SRW chassis cab - nobody knows why.]

As for towing the 5er, get one of those neat tow bodies made specifically for towing a 5er. Or if you prefer the looks of a pickup bed, then get the Fontaine or Royal Sport bed. Or if you want to get by on the cheap, then mount a simple flat bed with stake sideboards. All sorts of possibilities to worry about!

The snowplow pkg gives you stronger front springs than either the Camper, Heavy Service, or Max Front GAWR pkgs. As to the rear end, none of the pkgs add anything to the rear end except the camper pkg adds a swaybar. You can easily get an aftermarket rear swaybar from Heilwig or some such. Or you can even buy the Ford original from your ford dealer's parts department.
