ford super duty later explained that National Control does not mean there are none available or that they are on back order. It simply means that there are a lot fewer available than curent demand. So Ford in Detroit HQ is controlling who gets the available components - instead of the normal control by Ford Districts.
So if you ordered the camper pkg and you really want it, just hang on. You'll get it in your turn. But you might get the truck quicker if you delete the camper pkg from your order. And you might not.

Hmmm. THis makes me wonder. My 2000, build date of 8/8/2000, does not have camper or off road package. These are the only options missing. It is the only lariat I have ever seen without both. Most lariats have one or the other. Ive never seen another like mine. I probably never will need either since a camper is not in my plans and I certainly dont take it offroad(except snow)(I guess a really heavy fiver might need it). Could this same thing, ie: lack of camper and offroad packages could of happened to my truck in 2000 since is was early production?(and off the lot I might add)

Probably not. That message BWilliams posted that is quoted above was a Ford District message to all dealers in the district. There is a new message like that every week, and the shortages and controls and allocations change almost weekly. For example, a common control is indicated in that message above: CrewCab 20 percent.
That means that if that dealer is allocated 10 superdutys to be built this build cycle, only 2 of them can be CrewCabs. So if that dealer has 10 customers that have ordered a CrewCab, only 2 of those customers are going to receive a build date this cycle.
When your truck was built the only item on National Control might have been the CrewCab body, or the limited slip differential, or maybe overload springs. These trucks have hundreds of components, and the managers at Ford have to try to guess how many of each component will be ordered next month, next quarter, next year. And sometimes they miss their guess.
When they guess too few, then the assembly can't build trucks with that component until the supplier sends them some more. Depending on the component, and on how soon Ford realized that demand was higher than expected, it might take the supplier days, or weeks, or months - to increase production of that component to meet the current demand.
When they guess too many, Ford's cost go up because of excess inventory, and the guy that did the guessing gets hollered at. Or fired.

Matt,
My cousin's truck is a 99 CC Lariat 4x4 and he, like you, doesn't have either Off Rd or the Camper Pkg. The only problem with not getting the Off Rd Pkg is that he didn't get the steering damper. Makes a big difference in the steering "feel". It may not matter to you, but just so you know....
P.S. Found out today that my build date has been moved from the week of 9/11 to 9/18. This backordered camper pkg thing may have somthing to do with that.....

In your reply to Matt, you state that your cousin's 4X4 truck doesn't have the off-road package, so it didn't get the steering damper. Does this mean that it didn't get the oversized damper, or no damper at all? I have never seen a 4X4 truck with no steering stabilizer.
This is important to me since I just ordered a 4X4 without the off-road package. I don't want skid plates or the decal. I planned to install a heavy duty stabilizer myself.
Please advise.
Thanks.

My understanding and it has been consistent from ordering guides and the dealer is that all you get from the off road package are the skid plates and the decals. How much more can you expect for 107.00$. That is why it is hard to understand why it would take very long to restock there supplies of a simple commodity.
Hello:
The order guide dated 8-14-00 shows that the steering damper comes with the Suspension Package, Heavy-service (674), Max. Front GAWR Package (682) and Off-road Package (55R).
Snow Plow Package (86M)

4wheeler,
His truck has no steering damper at all. It does have a front stabilizer bar. I have never seen the steering damper listed as an option on any package untill the 8-14-00 order guide came out. It lists the steering damper on the Snow Plow Pkg, the Heavy Service Pkg, and the Off Road Pkg. Ordering the Off Road Pkg would be the least expensive way to get the damper, I think. You can just remove the decals if you don't want them and if you don't want the skid plates either, then maybe you can give them to my cousin ! For $107, I think it's worth the money.
