comments re: ordering 2002 PSD

I'm ordering my 2002 PSD this week. I have decided the configuration I want, except for 2wd vs. 4wd. I will be using the truck to tow a 6,500# (dry) boat and for occasional trips on unpaved dirt/gravel/mud roads -- no real "offroading" planned. My main concern is slipping on the ramp while loading or unloading the boat. I will have about 500# on the tongue, but I have read that even this weight may not be enough to keep the wheel from slipping on this truck? In your experience, will a good set of Michelins do the trick, or is 4wd the better alternative?

Also, roof clearance is more important for my application than ground clearance, so I plan to switch the 4" blocks for 2" blocks if this is not too difficult.

I would appreciate comments, suggestions, etc.

Thank you.

Re: comments re: ordering 2002 PSD

Welcome to the site.

My current truck (see signature) is also my first 4x4. I will NEVER be without one again. Although I don't do off-roading any more, just a couple of occasions when I have needed it made it totally worthwhile. I used to launch and retrieve boats on ramps and many times wished that I had that extra insurance that 4by would have provided.

Just my 2cents worth.
