Dealer cost fixed at order time?

I am currently negotiating a deal to order an F350 for a fixed amount over invoice. By the way, the dealer has been impressed by the information that I have relayed to him from this site! Anyway, the dealer is asking for the amount + invoice as of the delivery date. Is the dealer cost fixed at order time or delivery?

PSD2B, like your username.

First, off Welcome to ford-diesel! Doesn't sound like I need to tell you what a great site this is!

If the truck order has your name on it the price will be locked at order time. When your truck is shipped from the plant, the dealer gets an invoice with the then current invoice price; if there had been a price increase or the cost of fuel had gone up, the invoice price will be higher. Don't panic! You pay the originally negotiated price. When the dealer does the paperwork and indicates that the vehicle was purchased by the person who ordered it, they pay only the original invoice price. This allows the dealer to collect on any increases if the vehicle is sold to someone other than the ordering party.

I might have missed some details but this is basically how it works (how do I know, my fuel price went up between my order and delivery but I still paid the original price ).

I suspect Koakey is right.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Is the dealer cost fixed at order time or delivery?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

It depends.

On "sold" orders, the price is locked as soon as Ford accepts the order and sends the dealer the DORA. Your order will be a sold order, so the price will be locked a day or so after you order. Be sure that as part of your deal you have the dealer to agree to provide you a copy of the priced DORA as soon as he receives it. Then you will know your final price, not including TT&L.

On ordinary orders, the price is not locked until Ford ships the vehicle to the dealer. If you refuse to take delivery of your sold order, then the invoice price might change for the next customer who wants to buy that vehicle off the lot.

If I don't have that exactly right, I'm sure some of our dealership members will chime in to set me straight.

Re: Dealer cost fixed at order time?

My dealer indicated to me that if the invoice price changes before the vehicle is built, he had to pass the increase on to me.

Also, on the back of my order the contract reads as follows;

In the event the Manufacture shall notify the Dealer of a change in price for the new motor vehicles of the same style and type as the vehicl ordered by this agreement, and prior to delivery of the vehicle ordered by purchaser, the dealer shall have the right to adjust the cash delivered price of the vehicle ordered, only in the amount of the increase. In the event of any such change in price, the purchaser shall have the option of concluding the purchase at the adjusted price or canceling this agreement. Should the purchaser elect to cancel this agreement, the dealer will refund to the purchaser all amounts previously paid, and if the purchaser has delivered to the dealer a used vehicle as all or part of the payment required, the dealer shall redeliver the used vehicle to the purchaser. If the dealer has sold the trade-in vehicle, the dealer shall pay to the purchaser the agreed value of the vehicle.

Is this a Ford form?

Re: Dealer cost fixed at order time?

As Koakey and Smokey have pointed out, retail orders are price protected at the price level in effect at the time the order is placed. The order type must be "1" (retail) and the name on the order must match the name on the sales report. If there is a discrepancy between the order name and the sales name, price protection is available if the dealer can prove that there is a valid relationship between the two (ordered in husband's name but reported sold under wife's name, etc.).

Price protection for freight, fuel and FDAF charges is extremely hit or miss. At one point, Ford stated that these items were not eligible for price protection. Sometimes we receive reimbursement; other times nothing.

Note to apugh -- that sounds like a standard purchase order disclaimer and it is not a Ford form to my knowledge. If your dealer follows procedure, they should be reimbursed for any price increase.

Re: Dealer cost fixed at order time?

Thanks for the information everyone. My salesman has changed his tune after talking with the person placing the order. Invoice will be fixed at order time. So, with any luck, I should have one on order soon.
