Well today i tried to order an 05'crewcab 2wd long bed powerstroke only to be told they would not accept my order. All i wanted was an XLT with most options, carpet delete, and the tow command pkg(integrated trailer braking sys). The sales guy said that because i wanted the brake controller they would'nt take my order. He stated that ford doesn't have any of these for production models so they won't take orders if they have this option.
Can this really be true !!!I was stunned and walked out of the showroom.Just could not believe what i heard. If is true then ok.But if this gut was talk'in smack -- i'll be angry. I never thought i'd see the day when a car salesmen turned down an order for a 40 thousand dollar truck.
Rocky, I checked today with the ford dealer here and he told me the same thing.I argued a little bit then he made a phone call and found out that this was a issue the dealers were told from ford. But seems they have fixed the problem you know can order them.

I ordered on allready and on my options was a brake controller and the upfitter switches. Ford already accepted my order and it is headed to be built. All the options I chose which was EVERYTHING for the truck was available.
Id say Call of Lonestar ford, thats where I am getting mine from. The dealers her ein Vegas were also dumb to ordering trucks. Said they could not order them for over 6 week.s I went to three different dealers.

Well, he's right in that the trailer brake controllers are on a "commodity hold" right now. Ford ran out, probably because they were much more popular that Ford anticipated.
Unless the rules have changed, any dealer can order the truck, and Ford will accept the order, but subject to a commodity hold. That means the truck won't be scheduled for production until Ford fixes the supply problem with those trailer brake controllers. But the orders will be in the hopper, and they'll be built, eventually.
I suspect your dealerperson was simply trying to prevent the problem of your *****ing and moaning because the truck you ordered from him was delayed in getting delivered to you.
If you really want that truck with the trailer brake controller, then go back to that dealerperson and tell him that you understand that the truck won't get built for no telling how long, but you want that brake controller on the truck and understand it will cause a delay in getting the truck built. Maybe a long delay. Maybe a very long delay.
Or else give up on ordering that truck with the brake controller included right now. Instead order a truck without that option. Then you won't have a long delay in getting the truck built.
No, life is not fair, is it?

Thanks to all that replied. As a side note,i did mention to the sales guy that i was not in a big hurry for the truck and realized it would take longer than normal. He still would'nt do it.As far as not getting that option tho...here's how i look at it.I'm going to have this PU for along time and my wife told me to get it the way i wanted this time.I've always settled for what ever i got on a truck that was in stock. So i figure i'll just do it right this time, even if it takes longer to get it.This way it'll give me time to finish out the towing season with the current truck take out the 5th wheel hitch and get it cleaned up to sell.
Plus if i get it ordered now i won't talk myself out of ordering a new one....it'll be done!!!!

Good for you! A man after my own heart.
So do it right this time. Contact Cochise and tell him exactly what you want. He's already read this thread, so he's on top of your story. He'll get you a good price. Plus most important is allocation. The few trailer brake controllers that Ford can get their hands on are dribbled out to the dealers based on allocation. Cochise has a huge allocation, so any delay in his receiving the truck will be less than almost any other dealer.
And from the time you order until you take delivery, Cochise will keep you informed as to the status of your order. That's very important to most of us with trucks on order, but not something most dealerpersons will bust their butt over.
You notice Cochise never promised to get you the truck delivered in 6 weeks.
But he'll have you driving it sooner than almost any other dealer. Plus he's a really nice guy. Even if his Mom did stick him with the name of an Apache chief.
Is the brake controller an option or does it just come as part of the Tow Command option. I thought I read somewhere that if you want the tow command option you had get the brake controller.

There is no "Tow Command" option.
"Tow Command" is just marketing pizazz for a truck that has the auto tranny with tow-haul mode, the trailer-towing mirrors, and the trailer brake controller. In the order guide, the trailer brake controller is called simply the trailer brake controller, order code 52B. So if you pay for the auto tranny, the trailer-tow mirrors, and for option code 52B, the Tow Command pizazz is free.
Maybe I am wrong but I am showing the tow command as an option on my order sheet with it being order code 91T? I have the tow mirrors (code 54K) and the brake controller (code 52B) listed right below it but the actual price listing is after the tow command option at $362.00
Hope ford can get a few of these in, I would like to have my truck by Xmas

Well, unfortunatly, or fortunatly, depending on how you look at it, I'm going to wait until Sept or Oct to order one, with the new front suspension, I really want to test drive one before I order it. Guess that will give me a larger down payment though.
