Thinking about ordering a new SD.(My first got clobbered by a semi).
Not having dealt with dealers before, I wonder what to expect for 'additional' pricing. My local says he'll sell for invoice. What does that really mean? I did request an X pin from F@rd, but what differences should I expect? I know what X plan means as far as price is concerned, but what additionals am I in for? Destination, PDI, What-not...
Thanks to all for sharing such a wealth of information.
Save the hassle of dealing with a local (I learned the hard way on this one) and hie thyself to Bobby, Cochise, or Marty/Tim (all listed in the sponsors section of the links). None of them will do you wrong in ordering.
I like the idea of buying from one of the big 3 on here (Bobby, Cochise, or Marty/Tim) since they really know their stuff, but how does it work if you have a trade-in? Does everyone just try to sell their existing truck privately first? That is the biggest motivator for trading locally.

I bought my 2K from Courtesy on S. Broadway in Nov of 2K, the end of the model year. Waited till they advertised 6 grand off which brought the price down to what i thought was acceptable. Their add on was about 2 hun and then the shipping and I think an area advertising fee (not sure on that one, been a while). You can usually get the dealer add taken off but not the shipping and or Advertising, these are charges that are passed along from Ford.
Knowing what I do now, when I am ready to order the F350 Dually, my CFO says I can have one, I will probably go thru Cochise in Dallas and avoid all the hassles of waiting for the right time locally. No disrespect meant to Bobby or Marty/Tim, just that Cochise is a little closer and the Mex/Tex is better. If you intend to order, unless your dad owns a Dealership, save yourself some stress and call one of "The Boys", and when it comes in fly there and drive it back at your own pace. Good Luck. [/ QUOTE ] If a dealer agrees to sell you a vehicle under the X-Plan, then there should be no surprises. The dealer is required to show you the invoice, and the invoice includes the X-Plan price.
The X-Plan price should be a little less than dealer invoice. The invoice includes destination and delivery charges, FDAF and fuel charges, as well as the invoice prices for the base vehicle and options.
If you buy under the X-Plan, then the dealer is not allowed to add anything to the X-Plan price that is on the invoice. But of course you have to pay TT&L costs, which can be thousands of dollars. Don't blame the dealer for the TT&L costs - blame your state and local taxing authorities.
If you want to estimate the X-Plan price, then go to www.nadaguides.com (or any of several other websites that have invoice prices) and compute the invoice price - including destination charges. Those sites don't include FDAF and fuel charges of about $250, so you have to add that to get the actual total invoice amount.
Another way to estimate X-Plan price is to go to the Ford website that includes such info. Put in the zip code of a nearby city that has several dealers, then look in dealer inventory for your dream truck. If you find one that's real close to your dream truck, then you'll know the exact X-Plan price for that truck. Click here for that website.

Sorry, I had "DIS" on the mind when I was responding. But at least I got the part about the Tex/Mex right.
