Design stolen by/shared with GM?

http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums...howtopic=10791

These aren't the best shots, but it looks like Chevy and Ford are pretty much pulling parts off the same shelf. Look how close the side mirrors on the new heavy duty red GMC dually in the third picture look to the side mirrors we've seen on spy shots of the '08 Super Duty. Mounting points look a bit different(Ford's look a bit better), but man they have the same lines and square design.

Which leads me to my question. Does Ford outsource design on stuff like this? Maybe the same company designed Chevy's? Seem too close in design, unless one company had a spy in the other's design room.

Re: Design stolen by/shared with GM?

That GMC looks great... and it should since it's a direct copy of the current Super Duty! I guess the new '08 Super Duty will take care of that problem and the GMC will just be the old copied model. The Chevy grill is bigger than a whole Ranger!

LOL @ people saying they like the Silverado. The GMC Does look pretty good. Reminded me more of an F150 front end though.

Man it's funny as hell that you posted this, I was just thinking the same thing. Just last night on my way home from work I passed a new Cadillac Esclade and it too had vents on the fenders like the 08's are supposed to have. I actually did a double-take thinking it was a Ford.

Re: Design stolen by/shared with GM?

In the new motor trend mag. they have a picture of the new chebbie and GMC. I really like the looks of the GMC but the chevies are still weird looking. They should sell a lot of them compared to the slant eyed crap they are trying to sell now.

I love reading what the people are saying over there. At least on this board when we think something looks like crap, we can admit it.

Re: Design stolen by/shared with GM?

That GMC is one good looking rig, obviously some Superduty influence, heh, heh, heh... Competition is good for us buyers. My concern is the 08 Superduty is intially ugly. It may grow on me & then the 08 GMC will then again be lost in the dust because they are copying & not innovating. For now, I'm keeping the Superduty, it's been a great truck!

Re: Design stolen by/shared with GM?

The pictures of the new ford I've found to be VERY misleading... I watched the video's of them driving around in "dalmation" coloring and they look awesome! Big, hefty and not NEARLY as ugly as the pictures I've seen on the same website.

....and the current superdutys have been greatly infuenced by the 2nd gen dodges when they came out, with the raised hood and lower front fenders.

Re: Design stolen by/shared with GM?

You're right about the Dodge influence on the Ford originally. But that GMC isn't inluenced by the SD, it's ripped straight from it IMO.

Re: Design stolen by/shared with GM?

I hate the GMC.
There would be no way I would buy such an obvious copy truck.
The Chevy on the other hand, has possibilities.
First, it looks like GM has lifted the truck to meet the height of the Superduty, which is a positive.
Now, if they only fired the guy who designed the eye brow roof clearance lights..

So would that mean the chevy frame rails hang down 2 feet below the body rockers now?
