Does Alarm, etc. come with Advanced Security Group option?

If I choose the "Advanced Security Group" option, will the headlights flash and horn sound if somebody tries to break in (or is there any type of alarm in general)? In the 08 brochure, it only lists "Autolamp, autolock, illuminated entry system, remote keyless entry and driver door keypad" as features coming with that option. It makes no mention about any sort of siren, alarm or blinking lights/sounding horn.

Thanks
Gary

Unless something has changed, there is no alarm from the factory.

At least now the PATS keys are an option...

I think in this case "security" is referring to safety / personal security. Late at night in an unlit parking lot for example.

Re: Does Alarm, etc. come with Advanced Security Group option?

I was told that since the vehicle is classed as a 'commercial' vehicle and it is possible that it may be bought as a fleet purchase that they don't come with alarms from the factory. Imagine having a fleet of these all with different alarm codes. Just buy an aftermarket alarm with ignition kill and remote start. JMO.

PS or get something like in my sig, JK.

This is what you want! Or anything from DEI actually. Since I had my '07 stolen from me with only 1k miles on it, I'm ultra paranoid. I have the full GPS system from clifford(click link), PLUS the full Lojack system on my '08 6.4.

Re: Does Alarm, etc. come with Advanced Security Group option?

Will these aftermarket alarm systems work with the "Advanced Security Group" option, or should I forget that option altogether?

Thanks
Gary

[/ QUOTE ]If your buying a trim level that has the ASG as an option, personlly, I would not order it. If you put that money towards a decent alarm, it will do most of those functions and more.

Re: Does Alarm, etc. come with Advanced Security Group option?

Before I let someone hack my factory wiring harness, I would consider a dealer installed Ford Accessory Remote Start & Alarm ($280) and maybe a lo-jack system if you are really worried about it being stolen. I do not like aftermarket alarms for multiple reasons, the main one being most are made by DEI who bought Clifford and killed off all of Clifford's superior tech. Now Clifford is just another DEI brand like Viper, and Python. Another reason I do not like aftermarket alarms is everyone except you just ignores the typical alarm sound. A vehicle honking might get slightly more attention. So, if you are worried about the vehicle being stolen, get lo-jack. If you are worried about stuff in the vehicle being stolen, get better tint on the windows and don't advertise you have an nice stereo or gold bricks hidden in the cab. If you want remote start, get the Ford installed version, so at least your dealer won't try to fight warranty work if something goes wrong with the electrics in the vehicle. I know there are great custom installers out there, but most of the guys suck, they use cheap crimp connectors or splice connectors, when they should be soldering and heat-shrinking connections. But that is just my opinion.

Re: Does Alarm, etc. come with Advanced Security Group option?

The PATS "advanced secutiry option" is a huge benefit in these trucks. I have had a 2001 ex for 6 years with nothing other than PATS and no problems. The pats system elimitates most punk theives and probably a lot of pros. Why mess with a vehicle when all you can steal is the batteries and the crap inside (assuming you are not flashy with stuff on the interior). Worry more about the spare tire -I have had those cut down on my prior SD PU - a 400 tire is a quich swipe.

The PATS reduces major loss (eg theft and stipping of vehice - or joy "death" rides). They do make alarm / remote start a pain in the ARCE.

Make sure any company that you use to install your alarm has bonded installers and insurance. There are stories (urban legends?) that punk installers have made new keys during install and later sell or participate in the theft ring to get your vehilce. May not be such an issue in the midwest or other parts of the US - my truck spends most of its time within single digit miles from the border and fifteen minuets is all someone needs to get into another country.

Re: Does Alarm, etc. come with Advanced Security Group option?

I can't answer the question on lights & horns. Since we've only had it a week, we're still learning about all the features. There is a panic button on the Ford key fob.
The security group did not include the remote start. This allows him to use as cool-down after extended drives. DH had this installed after market so he has a 2nd controller on his keychain. The chips in the Ford key fob prevents anyone from driving off without a key. The trucks cannot be hotwired. Or at least that's what we were informed.
