Dual Alternator Placement on the 6.0

Does anyone know where the second alternator is placed on a dual set-up? I've ordered mine with two and remember a post about a year ago that said the 2nd one was placed fairly low on the 7.3. How about the 6.0? I will use mine off-road a fair amount and wondered if it would placed where water or mud could reach it.

Re: Dual Alternator Placement on the 6.0

Someone posted pictures of a 6.0L at a race or car show. It looks like the second alternator is immediately below and to the left of the first one.

Re: Dual Alternator Placement on the 6.0

They are both near the top, right next to each other, but one is kinda half hidden by some plastic shroud thingie. I haven't spent enough time under the hood (never did on the 7.3's either - never had to). And GOOD NEWS !!! They ARE on SEPERATE belts.

Re: Dual Alternator Placement on the 6.0

Looks like the engineers were thinking. You get amperage and redundancy. Good job.

Re: Dual Alternator Placement on the 6.0

My question is...

Is there any dash indication that will show a low or zero voltage error when just 'one' alternator goes down ?.

One presumes that the voltage meter will be just fine unless there is a major load on unless they both go down. So with that presumption did these folks think about at least an idiot light that says hey I am broke ?.

Re: Dual Alternator Placement on the 6.0

I have the new 5 speed auto trans, so the voltage gauge is replaced by the new trans temp gauge. Hence, idiot light now instead. Probably be better than that gauge at getting my attention anyway, since that gauge was probably the least important (Fuel, oil, & water temp much more important, IMHO)

Re: Dual Alternator Placement on the 6.0

Are you saying that now, both alternators work if both are required, like drawing a heavy amperage, or whatever. Or is it still one and then the other, and then the first. I'm hoping they both work when needed now.
