To ESP or not to ESP?

My PSD should be here in a week or so (please, please, please!!!!!!!) and I am considering the ESP but I have some questions I want answered before I discuss it with the finance person at the dealer. Can you folks help me?

If I get the first day rental option, does that go into effect if I bring the truck in for routine service that I pay for where the dealer needs most of the day to get to the work and finish it or does the vehicle have to need a repair that makes it unuseable?

In short, I need reliable transportation to and from work when the truck is in commuting mode. I would gladly do Ford service locally (good service dept) if I could still get to work easily. ESP is good for catastrophic failures but what about routine stuff?

Thanks.

Paul

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

Paul,

If you want to look at an actual contract, email me your snail mail address and I'll send you a copy of my Premium Care contract on Tuesday. I also have an Extra Care contract if you want to see that.

I don't think the fine print will fax.

Steve

Paul, the way I understand it (but I could be wrong) the rental car coverage is only good for warranty repairs, not routine maintenance. So oil changes etc. would not be covered under the rental option.

Sorry

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

Oil changes I can deal with. It is the 30 minute fix which takes all day that I need the rental for. The first day coverage is only $75 and I could eat that up in one or two visits worth so the cost could be worth it.

I wil check out Steve's documents and have a discussion with the dealer.

Paul

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

Just a thought, can you get your dealer to give you a loaner while your truck is in?

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

I'm workin on the ESP or not question also. Ford, it is my understanding, has two programs. One they call Premium care, and would be a continuation of our regular warrentee in effect. The second one they call Quality care and covers normal maintenance, oil changes, hoses, belts, inspections, etc.
Each program has the first day option available at additional cost. To state it a perhaps a little clearer that means two fees if you want first day rental coverage for both programs. The maintenance program is somewhat more expensive for the first day rental. Guaranteed usage I guess.
So if I have it right they both have a rental available if your dealer says that the truck will be in for more than one day but you have to pay extra if you want to get to work after you drop off the truck for the day.
Sorry for the long post. If I goofed anywhere please let me know, but thats the way I read it.

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

Captain,

There is also Extra Care, which covers fewer items than Premium care, but it is cheaper.

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

Paul, before the major screw up with my order ,, short vs long bed ,, I had discussed the ESP Ford plan with Stoneham. I was disappointed that the Ford plan only covers up to 75k miles if you have the 4x4. I am presently looking into warranty gold ,, http://www.warrantygold.com ,, and they do offer 100k/7yrs coverage for 4x4.

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

Paul - Check your mail tomorrow... It should be there.

Eric - Sorry about your truck - Which plan are you looking at? Both the ExtraCARE and PremiumCARE contracts that I have are for 4 yrs./100,000 miles, and they both cover the four wheel drive all the way. Maybe because I got a shorter term than you're looking at?

I did NOT get the first day rental plan. On the back of my application, here is what it says: "RentalCARE: Provides immediate first day coverage up to $28/day for up to three days for original factory limited warranty repairs." So I guess it is for 3 yrs./36,000 miles and ONLY for repairs.

Looking again at the application, there are PowertrainCARE (29 components), BaseCARE (which adds 84 more components), ExtraCare (Base + "certain high tech (electronic) parts), and PremiumCARE (500+ components). I didn't realize there were that many choices.

Have you looked at the ESP website? There is a lot of info there.

Steve

P.S.: I just spotted more fine print on the application: ... purchased with Snow Plow Prep packages 53C or 86M or 627 ... are eligible for ESP ... service contracts with Plan Distance of less than 100,000 miles.

Maybe that's the problem???

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

I would be interested in what other people with warrantygold.com think of it. It really makes me that Ford will only go to 75K miles. What kind of message does that say about their own product?
Bill

It is, and so is my truck. Thanks Steve and thanks to all of you for all the education you have provided and for all the things I hope to learn from all of you in the future.

Dealer hasn't called yet. I want to see how long it takes my sales guy to realize the truck is here. I checked it out (quietly), it looks good, has my name on the windshield.

Re: To ESP or not to ESP?

Steve,
I was looking at the PremiumCare for I believe 5yrs/75k. I wanted the 100k but the dealer said Ford did not offer it on 4x4s. I have read complimentary reviews of Warranty Gold here.

I agree with Paul that having a rental car for those short time/day visits is necessary.
Now that I am WAITING , again, I have time to research further.
