now I priced out two SRW 4x4 F-350s on the 03 pricing guide, and found that I can get a chassis cab with dual tanks and the spare tire for about $1,000.oo cheaper than the P/U, with similar options. (some not avail with chassis)
could I get a chassis cab with X-plan? and is there a bed upfit rebate? and can I use it if I already have the bed?

on bobbys site, it shows a chassis cab with lower accent paint. is this available now?
[/ QUOTE ] That's just an artists' rendering that show different light reflection off that part of the body. Ford doesn't offer 2-tone on the chassis cabs. But any decent body shop will add it in your choice of color for not much more than Ford charges.
In reply to:

also a mention of a 5-link rear air-ride suspension. How did I miss that?
[/ QUOTE ] It's not in the order guide or price list yet, so it's probably another one of those 2003.25 "late availability" jobbies.
In reply to:

[/ QUOTE ] Yep. But the chassis cab is an "incomplete vehicle" that you can't license until you add a bed or body. The cheapest flat bed with no bells and whistles will eat up that $1,000. Most nicer beds and bodies will cost you about $7,000, and the really nice ones are over $10,000. Even adding a plain ole pickup bed will cost about $7,000 from Centurion.
And double-check with your bed/body guy before you order the dual tanks. Most beds and bodies can't be mounted with the midships tank. About the only ones that can be mounted with the midships fuel tank is a plain ole flat bed without side boxes down where that tank goes. Your current body will probably not allow the extra tank.
And there's no place to mount the spare. The fuel tank goes where the spare would be on a pickup. Out here in the desert some of the work trucks put a spare on a headache rack over the cab - but that's not a good idea as it adds higher center of gravity. [/ QUOTE ] I can't tell for sure, but it looks that if the F-350 pickup is elgible then the F-350 chassis cab wouuld be eligible too. However, fdealer.com does not show any F-Superduties as eligible for X-plan in this reagion. But I don't have access to the Vincent system were the official incentive list is maintained.
In reply to:

[/ QUOTE ] There is a commercial customer upfit allowance of $1,000, but only commercial companies can qualify for it. If you put the truck in the company name, then you might qualify for the $1,000. You'd have to have receipts for your costs of at least $1,200 or so in qualifing upfits to get the refund for the $1,000. The labor to refurbish the body and install it would probably qualify. But I don't think you can get this refund if you're a private party with an RV to tow.

in the post about the upfit rebate, it said a vehicle could be titled to an individual/sole prop/ect. and would qualify if used for business.(it will be)

the extra tank is mounted outside the frame? didnt dateline instruct them better? I was hoping it would be inboard like fords had always been before.

mounted on the side of the rack above the boxes is ok, as I dont have built-in top boxes.
the biggest bummer is the outside fuel tank. (although I do have a flatbed also). Hmmm 200 inch wheelbase crewcab...

[/ QUOTE ] Yep, individuals qualify but you've got to prove that you're in a business that would use that sort of equipment in the business - such proof as a yellow-pages ad. A business card won't do the trick. And if your "proof" is a yellow-pages ad for the XYZ company, then the truck must be titled to the XYZ company - not to the owner of the company.

[/ QUOTE ] I don't know, I don't think so, but the filler hose and "gas cap" are outside the frame - right where the lower side box would want to be.

I'm a licenced General Contractor, licence, DBA statement, tax records ect,
but now that I think of it, I remember a front tank (only) on a chassis cab I saw at a dealer, if that is the same tank used with the regular tank, then the filler through the frame rail wouldnt necessarialy mess me up, I just need to check the builder specs to see how far away from the cab it is, it might work as my old bed is made for a dual tank ford SRW. have to go measure...
