I was planning on ordering a 2006 Ford F-350 SRW Crew Cab Short Bed and the Gross Vehicle Weight would have been 11,400 Lbs. but then I read some where that if the truck weights more than 10,000 Lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight it has to be registered as commercial. Is this true?

No as long as you don't use it in a commercial capacity. As long as you use it for your personal use. Now if your GCWR(GROSS COMBINED WEIGHT RATING) of your truck and trailer goes above 26,000 then you may want to consider getting a CDL-Commercial drivers license, because some cops may not be as nice as some, and may then try to give you a ticket for being over weight, for what is supposed to be the law for needing a commercial license. As long as your useing your vehicle to pull a Camper Trailer then your supposed to be exempt from even having a CDL, but just to be a little more on the safe side you might want to get one. Of course I know this sounds easier said than done, I've had my CDL-Class A for so long it just seems to be the norm. You can get different types of CDL's with a class A being the top notch, but you may be good by just getting a class C Cdl, or class B Cdl, B would be better. Really I don't think you need to worry about it, I would just put regular tags on it and go, and don't worry about getting a special License unless your pulling a trailer thats going to be heavier combined with the truck than 26,000 lbs. Of course you need to check with your states laws.
It may depend on what state you live in. My F350 King Ranch is not registered as a commercial vehicle in Texas, but my insurance company made me carry commercial insurance.

Well it is because I own a business and I take employees to different areas to help train. I also so take products to the stores as well. My insurance went from $800 a year to $1800
I have Farmers Insurance too. There are some other insurance companies that may be cheaper(not going to mention names) but you get what you pay for. Farmers has always been good even though they are a little bit more $$$
When I first got my 2002 DWR CC 4X4 Farmers said it had to go to Commercial account no matter if you had a business or not because it was a 1 ton. I think some of the rules have changed now.

In California it would be considered a comercial vehicle by the DMV but as far as the insurance company is concerned, at least with mine(GMAC), it is still a personnal vehicle.

Depends on the state. Every state is different.
Ford also offers a special option for folks that want an F-350 SRW but want only 10,000 pounds GVWR - for registering in those states with stupid laws that make it cost more if your GVWR is more than 10,000 pounds.
There is no difference in the trucks, except for the sticker on the doorsill will say GVWR 10,000 instead of something higher. The option code is 68D, 10,000 GVWR Pkg.
Sorry, but this option is not offered on the Dooley.
Reminds me of Oklahoma. Even the lightest-duty half-ton pickup has to have to have "Commercial Vehicle" in big letters on the back bumper.

[/ QUOTE ] Are you saying if it is registered as a commercial vehicle?? I have registered several heavy duty 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups in Oklahoma, and have never had to register them Commercial, as long as there used for your personal use, and not used in a commercial capacity, and I have never been made to take out commercial insurance either.

No. I'm just saying that every time I go into Oklahoma to the family reunions (Darling Wife is an Okie) all the pickups have "Commercial Vehicle" plastered on the rear bumper. Even on the ordinary half-ton pickups that are obviously not a commercial vehicle.
That's because several years ago, commercial tags were MUCH less $ than personal tags. Everybody came up with "businesses" that needed a vehicle and skirted the law. That was dropped a couple of yrs back, so now they're just too lazy to take off the lettering!!
