F-350 Question

Hi All,
I am considering ordering a new F-350 PSD and have a couple of questions. I have two trucks that I will be trading in both F-250's. The F-350 sits highrer in the back and wonder if you can order it with the shorter blocks so it sits like a 250 in the back?. Also My 95 PSD pulls my trailer effortlessly with 3.55's and I don't want to make a mistake on the rearend. My 2000 V10 with 3.73's does the job it just seems to work harder. I don't want to loose pulling power and want to get the best mileage as this will be a everyday driver. I would like to go with the 3.73's. Are there any problems with a dually in the snow as compared to a SRW. My next question is the tough one. My 95 is mint with 34k miles on it with a perfect maintenance record. Would it be asking a lot to trade both trucks in a on fully loaded F-350 supercab 4X4 dually (approx. 40k sticker) and get a check for 8k?. Steve

Re: F-350 Question

SRB442,

Your new truck will invoice at around $35,200. There is NO WAY two '95 or '96 model trucks are worth that plus $8K. My guess is that the trucks will bring about 10-14K wholesale on a good day each.

The thing to do is to get in the truck and drive it to a Dealership or independent and ask for a "buy bid". They will ask you what you want, that is, so they do not offer more than you want.

If you say 18-20K or something like that, they will probably will say that they are not interested and will not give you a bid.

You never know till you try. Just MHO.

Jim

The F-350 SRW comes with 4-inch blocks in the back. The F-350 DRW (Dooley) comes with 2-inch blocks in the back - the same as the F-250.

quote:
My 95 is mint with 34k miles on it with a perfect maintenance record. Would it be asking a lot to trade both trucks in a on fully loaded F-350 supercab 4X4 dually (approx. 40k sticker) and get a check for 8k?.

Your '95 is worth about $13,000 on trade-in against a cash price of $500 over invoice for the new truck. If Jim is right in that the 2001 would invoice at about 35,200, then it will cost you about 35,700. Subtract 13k for the '95 leaves 22,700.

Your '00 is probably worth a lot more than $22,700, but it's certainly not worth $30,700.

So, no, you can't trade in both trucks and take home a new $40,000 truck plus a check for $8,000.

But you should be able to take home $3,000 to $5,000.

If you'd sell both trucks yourself, for almost retail value, then you'd come a lot nearer to taking home the whole $8,000.

Jim---you seem to be well versed w/invoice prices---can you help me for a second. What should the following invoice at?? 2001 F-350 SD/CC/Lariat/Shorty/4x4/PSD/Auto /3.73/Camper Package (if still offered)/Off Rd/40-20-40 Bench Seat/ Premium Stero (no CD Changer)

Anyone know where I can get it at around $200 over invoice??? There used to be a lot of postings here claiming under invoice, or right at invoice---I'd be happy with what I got my last one at, which was 200 over, but they won't honor it this time---that one was in Mobile, Al.

thanks,

Re: F-350 Question

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replys. I am going to see if I can sell the 95 my self. I still would like to know how a dually is in the snow compared to a SRW. I am going to order in Jan./Feb. time frame like I did on my 2000. So I have it in the spring. Steve

Re: F-350 Question

And if you don't want to add the numbers yourself you can go to http://www.sunsetford.net
and use their build software, gives you invoice and MSRP. The only thing they left off was FDAF and Fuel surcharge, but I didn't pay those either.

Re: F-350 Question

SRB442:
I have driven a couple of duallys in the snow and did NOT like them on slick surfaces. The dual rear wheels seemed to float more over the snow and did not dig down for traction. This was on a 2 wheel drive.

I ordered my 2001(.25?)which listed for $38860.00. Less discount of $4985.00 = net price $33875.00. If I remember right it was about $300.00 below dealer invoice. Got this price no haggle, just asked him how much it would be. After I had shopped around I realised how good of a price he shot me.

Why be difficult, when with a little effort you can be impossible.

Re: F-350 Question

Buckwheat,
Thanks for the comment on the dually in the snow. I will be getting a 4X4 so will probably be ok in the snow just never had a dually and don't know what to expect. The truck I priced out was 40,715 list and 35,778 invoice. I haven't been to my dealer yet to see what kind of price I can get. My 2000 I got for $600 over invoice. I will have trades this time so got to watch real close what the deal is. Thanks Steve

Paul if you click on the box displaying the year you can change the year to 2001. That is also the software and exact numbers the dealer used for my deal. Those numbers have been available since Aug 1.

Re: F-350 Question

Hi all,
Just a update on this thread. I sold the 95 F-250 today and got what I wanted for it. Now I have to order a new truck and am stuck between a F-350 SC 4x4 dually and a F-250 SC 4x4 SRW. I need input on the pros and cons of a dually. The dually would have 4.10's and the F-250 3.73's. My 95 had 3.55's and pulled the enclosed car hauler (aprrox. 7200 lbs) I have effortlessly. I have a 2000 V10 with 3'73's and it does the job but not like the 95. Not a big issue but how much less fuel mileage with the 4.10 dually versus 3.73 F-250. Also I have heard the duallys are not good in the snow as a SRW truck. I will be driving this truck every day so the snow thing is a concern being in the northeast. Steve

Re: F-350 Question

SRB,

1st) If your getting a diesel it really doesn't make sense to get a 250! Here's why, the truck will weight approx. 7000 lbs with you in it and fueled up. Now add tool boxes, coolers, jacks, Other people, Beverages of choice, etc. PLUS the tongue weight of your trailer, and I'll bet your over the 8800 pound weight limit of the truck.

2nd) For approx. $350.00 difference get the F350 srw option with the camper package. This will give you 9900 lb gvw no noticeable difference in ride quality, srw WHICH ARE BETTER IN THE SNOW! The 3:73 rear is all that is necessary in this configuration to tow a normal box trailer with a race car in it. If you have plans to 5th wheel the truck, or put a bed camper on the truck then and only then, would I go to the dually for stability. The dually option has an 11,000 lb GVW and can not be ordered in 3:73.

Hope this helps.

Re: F-350 Question

Pick_em_up,
Thanks for the input on this. I am not going to get the F-350 Dually. I would get the F-350 SRW but don't like the extra 2" of rear end height over the F-250. The 95 PSD F-250 I just sold with the 3.55's pulled my trailer with no problems. I have show cars so don't carry a lot of tools and the bed is almost always empty. I am probably going to go with the F-250. Thanks again Steve.

Re: F-350 Question

Hi,
I placed a order for a 2001 F-250 4X4 SC LB PSD toredor red with gray leather. Decided against the Dually especialy when the wife just did $1000 damage to the side of her Siverado hitting a guardrail coming out of her parking lot at work. I think the extra width in the rear would have been a problem for her to drive.
I am assuming now that if my order goes in now I will get the latest improvements like the seats with the belts on them and the upper console which has more storage area. Thanks Steve
