Looking at two 450's side by side, one with standard all season tires, and one with traction tires the tires were the exact same thing.Continental hsr tires on the front, and continental hdr tires on the rear.Anybody know why traction tire option is 190 dollars more,if getting the same tires?I know the hdr is for the drive axle, and the hsr is for the steering axle.Could the hsr be a all position tire, and possibly be on both axles as standard? Thanks in advance for any info.

They're not the same tires. The shoulders on the HDR traction tires has more separation between the tread blocks. The HSR has a solid shoulder. I'm like you, though. I had a hard time figuring out the difference between the HSR and HDR. I have the HDR on my truck and they are a little noisey.
I stopped back at the dealership on my way into work this morning and see what you mean about the shoulders on the tires. What i'm after is what is the difference between all season and traction tire option, given the same hsr tires and hdr tires on both trucks.

I don' know about that. I figured that with the all season tires the rear would be the same as the front, maybe the HSR tires are used on the rear, also.
Talking to a customer service rep on friday the 14th,she wasnt sure either about the tires. To my surprise she connected me with a "driveline" specialist. He told me that the standard all season tires are the continental hsr model in all six positions. The traction tire option gives you the hsr tires up front, and 4 hdr tires in the rear.He suggested tha since i live in a area that sometimes get heavy snowfall, and will be towing into construction sites,i should go with the traction tire option. The all season set-up is good for all highway driving and good taction in the rain, but is limited in snow traction. The difference between the hsr and the hdr is tread depth, tread design, and the compound making up the tires.Hope this clears things up a bit.

My tires have quieted down some since I have a few thousand miles on the truck now. Just did my first oil change today. I've had many new trucks but none could match what this truck is.
