F 550 DUAL DIESEL FUEL TANK OPTION

Trying to build a new F550 online I see the option of dual diesel fuel tanks. Can anyone tell me how many gallons they carry? How about the location of the tanks.-----Wish ford would offer more info on this stuff.

The option code is: 65C

The standard tank is 40 gallons and is placed behind the rear axle. The optional tank is a midship 19 gallon.

Re: F 550 DUAL DIESEL FUEL TANK OPTION

What Bobby said. Not much else you can say about them. Except this:

The rear tank is std. Almost all aftermarket bed and body upfitters expect it to be there, so they can connect the rear fuel tank filler tube to the fuel door in the bed/body.

But the midships tank is an oddball on a chassis-cab truck, so "word to the wise":. If you are ordering a service body or almost any bed/body that will fill in the area under the bed with tool boxes, storage compartments, PTO, hydraulic system, etc., then do NOT order the dual fuel or midships tank before discussing it with your upfitter.

And the same goes for an ordinary pickup bed from Manning Truck Equipment or a fancy pickup bed from Fontaine Modification. Their std beds do not have a fuel door for the midships tank. They may have a special bed with two fuel doors, but check with your upfitter before you order the chassis.

Of course if you plan to mount a plain ole flatbed without side boxes/compartments, then no problem.

Re: F 550 DUAL DIESEL FUEL TANK OPTION

My truck had been ordered by someone else, that could not afford to buy it when it came in. It had everything I wanted, plus the midship tank. If I was ordering one, and wanted an extra tank, then just hold off, and when you get the truck buy the TransferFlow Tank Midship Tank. They are about the same price and they hold about twice as much as the Ford Option.

Re: F 550 DUAL DIESEL FUEL TANK OPTION

I think that transfer-flow has a 50 gal. midship tank available now. I have a 33 gal. transfer-flow tank in my truck and it has worked very well. I will get another tank in my new truck from them again !!

Re: F 550 DUAL DIESEL FUEL TANK OPTION

I bought one of the first 50 gal. midship tanks in Feb. Had problems with the float hanging up on the vertical wall of the tank, when full after 3 times taking the sender out, & a little tweaking, no more problem, (except spending $175 on a fillup) Here's the link for the cab chassis trucks: http://www.transferflow.com/html/ford_chassis_tank.html Lloyd
