Fireblown tires on 03's - What Gives?

I have seen several 03's with fireblown steelex tires on them.

According to a dealer where I was looking at the 03's the SD are comming with steelex or generals. He showed me two 03's one had the steelex (RWL AT option) and the generals (stock).

Anyone know what gives?

Evidently they are still in bed with them

I don't see what's wrong with Firestones in general. While the Wilderness AT's were significantly defective, the Steeltex AT's are decent tires.

The feds cleared the Steeltex's in their investigation, so I would guess there is no reason to change.

Mine have 43k on then and going strong!

Re: Fireblown tires on 03's - What Gives?

I have run firestones my whole life without any problems.
I think that Firestone/Explorer thing was a media explosion, rather than a firestone one.
All tires will peel when run at 80+MPH without enough air pressure..

Re: Fireblown tires on 03's - What Gives?

YODA -- Ford has officially ended future relationships with Firestone. They are; however, honoring existing contracts including the Super Duty (Steeltex) and Focus (Firehawk). It is also rumored that Ford and Bridgestone (Firestone's parent company) have begun negotiations for future contract bids involving Bridgestone branded tires.

For what its worth, we've had more complaints about General tires on the Super Duty line compared to the Firestone Steeltex.
