fleet order, WTH?

I have no idea where to go w/ this, so........

On a fleet order, how long should a ford dealer take to get the info out. My dept ordered a veh about 2 months ago and for whatever reason it hasn't arrived yet.
What can I do to get some detailed destination info? It's been next week, next week and so on. To make matters worse we have to take sealed bids, who respond to our bid notice.
It would be great to mail/fax bid requests to guys like bobby or cochise(sp).
Maybe w/ some pressure( 2 months we have been short a cruiser) and acurate info, I'm willing to bet w/ can get the city to modify their bidding procedures.
Having only three patrol units to begin w/ and my partner rolled one , makes it a real pain.
thanks guys

Re: fleet order, WTH?

I'd put on my best uniform and go see the fleet manager. Ask him to show you the page in the weekly status report Ford gets from the VOPC (vehicle operations production center) that includes your order number. They don't even need to interpret it for you. Look in the '99-up FAQ on TheDieselStop and find the button for "during your order". Click on that and the various status events will be understandable.

Note that one status on that report is abreviated as "SUB TO PLA". That's not some foreign language, it's shorthand for "submitted to plant".

Then every Friday afternoon until the cruiser arrives, show up at the dealership asking to see the latest status report. You'll be a new man.

Re: fleet order, WTH?

smokey,
the prob I'm having here is the veh was ordered but an out of town co. This guy got our info from another little pd down the road. Additionally the order was done while I was on works comp, so I didn't know about it until I came back in feb.
The chief went w/ the impala last year but this guy out bid it by close to 1300 including the lightbars, cage, etc.. vs a stripped impala. The city saw the bid and he had no other choice and went w/ the CV despite wanting to get an impala(die hard chevy guy).
We have elections on sat, hopefully the mayor gets re-elected, if not we all will be looking for a new job. Long story there.
Council will meet in 2 weeks. Maybe if bobby and some of the other guys can get me input on bids, etc.. I hope to convince the city to mail/fax bids.
FWIW, last year we ordered the impala in late jan. We didn't get it until late may, then it took another wk or so to get it set up. A complete and total headache.
