I am ordering on my next truck. New fifth wheel trailer on order is having hydraulic disc brakes installed on all three axles. As I understand, the Ford controller does not work with that set-up but I hope it will in '07 when I place the truck order. I think the controller is well worth the cost of the option, if nothing else than the neat installation within easy reach from the driving position. Most regret not having it when they ordered/bought their truck.

Without a doubt order it! The best money you'll spend, considering you won't have to mess around wiring up an aftermarket controller, and it fits nicely into the dash.

Mine did not have it so I bought the Prodigy, and it works great. If you catch it on sale at Camping World I think I paid 140 and install was a snap it took me maybe 30 min. I dont know if its worth the money I guess it depends on how much you pull.
I'm using a Prodigy to tow my 5th Wheel (13,500lbs.). Prodigy is a very good proportional (sorry, I meant inertia) controller but if you have the opportunity to get the Ford factory controller, get it!! The Ford controller is tied into the hydraulic system to measure braking pressure. You will get much smoother trailer braking from the Ford controller.
The only comparable after market product is BrakeSmart and it costs about $400.00 but the company is experiencing manufacturing problems and has not shipped any controllers for almost a year. Again, get the factory controller, I wish I had held out for one.

I had Prodigy in the 04- worked great. Have the Ford unit in the 06, and I wouldn't go back. Use it with 34' Hitchhiker 5th wheel.
It gives very smooth braking action- even on quick stops.

I vote yes on the controller. It's the only real good thing Ford has done in the past few years.

2006 6.0 Replacement truck Problem list.
Too extensive to list.
Days in shop so far 71 and counting as they still have it.
34K miles.
After spending a month in the shop and having it back only 2 weeks, it's back in the shop. Ford Customer service refused to send me a DSB Package. Told me the info is in the back of manual. Well truck is in shop and I don't have the info can you give it to me? No, it's in the manual.
Absolutely. It is the best $190 dollars you will spend. I didn't and have regretted it. The after market install from Ford is $500.00+ I hear. When you coinsider the total cost of the rig it makes no sense not to get it all. If I had it to do over again I would get the controller and the heated seats in addition to what I got.
