Ford's $500 rebate for military, retirees need not apply

Kind of ticked off, found out yesterday that Ford has discontinued offering the military $500 rebate to us old fart retirees(I ain't that old, just feel it). I got the rebate back in '04(retired from Navy in '98) and just expected it again. Wonder when the rules changed? Someone else posted not too long ago, they got a $750 rebate that was especially for military retirees. Guess I just got to be happy that Golden Corral offers a free meal on Memorial day to us old farts.
God Bless America

Now, now, now.

Ford is literally hanging on by the fingernails trying to stay in business. They had to cut somewhere.

But what's the most they could possibly save that way? A few hundred million? Chump change. By cutting out retirees from discount plans, I bet they can save a whole million or two... not to mention all the money they'll save not building those cars and trucks when the people go somewhere else to buy one!

Re: Ford's $500 rebate for military, retirees need not apply

What is wrong with the rebate for those of us that are doing the job (active U.S. Air Force) and not for ones that have done it. I don't see the problem. If you are retired from the military than I am sure you have a second career. You have two incomes for one person not counting your wife’s if she works. The active guy just has one and two if the wife’s works and is still working (one deployment at time, 12 and counting) for the retirement check. I don't think the $500 will break you. Give Ford a break. FWIW

Re: Ford's $500 rebate for military, retirees need not apply

Get the x plan and then you don't have to bother with the military rebate since they can't be used in conjunction. End result will be better price for you anyway.

...and for those active duty members that don't feel bad for the retirees, let me hear you say that once you retire.

Re: Ford's $500 rebate for military, retirees need not apply

Yes, I do have multiple incomes, and yes, if I can save another $500 why not? I have received the military rebate on previous Ford purchases while on active and retired status. FWIW. I was disappointed to see the incentive taken away. Have fun on Active Duty, you may be in for a suprise when retired and learn how many of those promised benefits have disappeared. All the more frustrating to learn that DOD civilians and contractors are given a higher preference than military retired. Read up on what is happening with Tricare fees. Hmm, what did that recruiter tell me, give most of your working life to Uncle Sam and you and your spouse will get good medical care for the rest of your life for free.

With 32 years working in and for the Air Force, with most of that time traveling out of HQ USAF, I rarely made money on temporary duty (TDY). And my Air Force contract hotels/motels were always the cheapest available in the area.

But your general idea that the Air Force is usually a much better living environment than the Navy is right on.

Smokey, I was just having a bit of fun with my AF counterparts. Nothing like being stationed on a 45 year old carrier(USS Forrestal and Independence). Air conditioning, hot(JP free)water optional.

Re: Ford's $500 rebate for military, retirees need not apply

OK, I'll chime in. I retired last summer after 22 years in the Air Force. My friends (all Navy) tell me I successfully avoided military service by joining the AF. I don't mind; we all had choices when we signed up (including the ones offered military duty or jail!). I had fun. I know my quality of living was often better than many of my other service buddies. They know it too. We all get along. I wouldn't trade the Army, Navy, Marines, or Coast Guard of the United States for anything--that's why we're free.

And CaptSkup is right--when you retire, you become a 3rd class citizen to the military (and the Air Force). The $500 rebate is NOT so Sgt Snuffy can afford a truck. It's so everyone who supports the military will say, "Look how patriotic Ford is. I think I'll buy one, too." It's advertising. I still get a 10% rebate at AutoZone for being retired. It makes me feel thanked. This part of the country has a few more military and military related folks than the rest of the US and just about every business gives a discount. From many of them, it's a plain and simple thank you, not even marketing, since they don't advertise other than a small sign by the register. I'm sure I had a point but it wandered away while I was typing. If you see it, let me know or send it back. Thanks to all who served and who are serving. Rebate or not.
