HELP!!! - Delayed VIN Assignment

Anyone know why it is taking my dealer sooooooo freakin' long to get a VIN out of Ford? I ordered my truck on Nov 13th (3 weeks ago). In response to my constant proding, I received the following E-Mail reply from my dealer.

"There is no allocation problem with [dealer's name excluded out of the kindness of my heart]. We’re in the holiday season and things are a little different at Ford during this time period. No material holds on any of the items we requested on your vehicle. If there were any delays, Ford would inform us thru email or phone call."

I know, it smells like a blow-off. I especially like the "things are a little different at Ford during this time period" comment.

My questions are:
1. How long did it take you to get your VIN after order, and how long from order to delivery?
2. Does a delayed VIN assignment mean delayed delivery?

HELP!!!
ps - He already has 1000 of my hard earned dollars. Kinda feel like he has me by the short ones here.

I ordered my '08 on 9/25. I just got my DORA on Monday and i dont have a full VIN# either. I have dealt with this dealer for over 15 years, so I know it's not them. I've been told it has been an allocation issue due to high fleet orders in the region (Northeast).

On the second page of the DORA it indicates that 3.73 LS axles are on order. Sounds like a material hold to me. I don't know if you ordered 3.73's though.

You say that you do not have a "full" VIN, does that mean you have a partial?

Man, I'd be going ballistic on these guys! I thought I was getting jerked.

Good luck. I'll have a moment of silence on your behalf.

Re: HELP!!! - Delayed VIN Assignment

Found out some information today. It has been 3 weeks since my order as well. I also have been working a deal on a dealer stock F350 Lariat DRW unit as well since my ordered unit has not even got a vin# yet. My dealer had the factory rep. in today, I actually spoke to her on the phone. She said my ordered unit on 11/13 has been recieved but not assigned a vin# yet, and from the looks of things it may not be in till Feb. 2008. She also said the rebates will not be any better past Jan. 2, 2008 when most the rebates expired. There will be some rebates but no as good as they are now. Kinda makes you wonder if the dealer had some secretary there in his office just saying these things, to make a stock sale. I was at work on the phone and I was on the sales mgr's speaker phone. Not sure what to do now? I want what I ordered but at the risk of loosing 2-3000 in rebates??
What to do?
Just food for thought! I would think if any of us get a vin# today or tomorrow, by the time it is built, shipped from rail then sitting in a holding station thru or past Christmas, we may miss out on the 1/2/08 ending rebates. Now we pay more.

Yeah, I didn't know what to make of that either. Mine is shown as follows:
COMPAT/HOLDS/INFO
INFO X3L LIMITED SLIP AXLE ON ORDER
INFO: 62R PTO OPTIONAL W/AUTO TRANSMISSION

I figured (read "a-s-s-u-m-e-d") that since it was preceeded with INFO and not HOLD that I was OK. I kinda of feel that's right since I didn't order the PTO (not listed in DORA) and it's also included in this section as INFO. Anywone wanna weigh in on this one? Am I reading this right?

Re: HELP!!! - Delayed VIN Assignment

Things are suposed to be getting back to normal as of Jan '08 is what i heard from the zone rep. last month and that he couldn't even pull strings(assign lower that 10 priority code) till then.
My sales guy has been the ford light truck guy for 10+ years at this dealer(Badger Ford Milwaukee WI.(trucks only) and has never seen it so messed up as far as ordering nor has the zone rep. they order it it comes and fast none of this 11+ week crap.

Re: HELP!!! - Delayed VIN Assignment

Ordering a truck is always a crap-shoot when it comes to rebates. You can buy from inventory if the dealer has something that is acceptable to you, but my truck will have all the suburban cowboy stuff, like Nav, DVD, etc. I couldn't find one just like I wanted anywhere, so I choose this agony (holding my breath and turning blue over Rebates ).

You guys are making me wonder if I am gonna see my truck before the 2009 vehicles hit dealer showrooms. Oh man, I can't imagine rolling out of the lot with my new truck and watching a carrier come in with a load of new 2009s. That's tonight's nightmare for sure . I'll let you know how it ends.

I'm gonna hold you to it. If I don't, can I drive yours for a while?

I posted a topic on BON (click here) in hopes of getting someone at Ford to maybe give us the inside lowdown.
