Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

Sorry to insult you George, just trying to help a fellow Ford truck buyer. You must be better on the dealing than me, I think my cash is the same color of green as yours but I could not get a 450 for much more than $3,000 off of sticker. A great person(T-10) graciously gave me a X-Plan pin number, which I took to my previous salesperson(Jeff at Sheehy commercial truck sales, Marlow Heights location, great guy), we sat down, went through the options list, put a truck together and he placed the order, no money was exchanged until the truck was delivered 90 days later. One of the most enjoyable buying experiences I have had. Only drawback, my wonderful wife got a new Camry out of the deal, tit for tat. Sure you may be able to get a better deal than what X-plan gives you(and three dealers I visited would not accept X-plan price on a '08 450 pickup), but for a guy like me with limited non obligated time and no patience, X-plan was the way to go. X-plan is one of the buying programs Ford offers, I think the other two are A and Z, though I believe those are for active and retired employees.

[ QUOTE ]
I think your best bet is to get a "X-Plan" pin number and use that for the best discounts on these trucks. I know with the hot F-450 pickup, I could not beat the x-plan price no matter how hard I worked the deal. X-plan allowed me to move up to a loaded Lariat and still saved me close to $6,000 off of the window sticker. I chuckled to myself recently when a friend told me how much he paid for his new Dodge 3500 diesel(6.7) dually, he paid almost $3,000 more than I paid for the much better 450.

[/ QUOTE ]

I paid almost $12k off sticker for my '06 Ram. Guess Dodge will keep selling more and more trucks. :-)

Honestly, it doesn't matter what brand you want, you HAVE to find the RIGHT DEALER! One of the dealership sponsors of this site should have such a deal available... Used to be Lone Star Ford and Sunrise Ford (?? can't remember if that's right or not) offered good pricing on new trucks on this site.

Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

Really not trying to be a smart ass, but you are comparing apples and oranges. The Ford SuperDuty is built by skilled American citizens who belong to a labor union. More than likely, your truck was built in a foreign country by poor people probably working for far less than half what a American is paid. Chrysler has much more "wiggle" room on pricing, heck they could probably sell a Dodge for maybe $5,000 more than what they pay Cummins for the engine and still turn a tidy profit. Your Dodge may be a reliable, strong tow vehicle, but it is not in the same class as the '08 Ford SuperDuties or the new generation GMC/Chevy trucks.

Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

I agree with George. I got no problem with the X-plan, but folks who know what they are doing around here NEVER pay over invoice for a Ford truck. Period. I bought an 2003X 6.0 in the very first days of release when the 6.0 was hotter than a firecracker and paid invoice. They get a 3 percent hold back even if they sell it at cost, which they don't. Don't anyone be confused, invoice is not their cost. I would walk out of a dealership if they would not show me the invoice and make the deal in about 10 minutes, assuming they had what I wanted in stock. I also agree with George, don't jerk around with the salesman. Let him greet you so he gets his cut, then tell him you want to deal directly with the sales manager. If they will not do it.......move on there are Blue Oval Dealers stacked on top of each other in most cities. One of them will do it.

Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

Okay, now I am getting my feathers ruffled. Looookeee here, I bought a down right beautiful pick-em-up truck, the biggest, baddest ass, diesel snorting towing monster, I paid just a hair over $50,000 for mucho optioned 450 Lariat(didn't get the sunroof(head hit head liner in sunroof models, did not get nav, I can still read a map and already have a Garmin), with my X-plan, military discount and loyal as a Golden Retriever repeat buyer, I think I got a great deal considering my options, a crappy Kodiak, Topkick, a $89,000 F-650, or a $99,000 International or Freightliner. Don't please don't bust my bubble.

Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

Local dealer here, Crossroads Ford is selling stocked (on the lot) '08 F-250's for $9k off MSRP. From what I've seen, that's about as good as it gets right now. Of course, it's only on F-250's.

(Sold) 2007 F-250, Lariat, CC, SWB, 4X4, 6.0, AT, 3.73's, Dark Toredor Red/Silver, Bone Stock. No leaks. 2nd 6.0. Much better truck than my 1st 6.0.

(Lemoned) 2005 F-250, Lariat, CC, SWB, 4X4, 6.0, AT, 3.73's, Dark Toredor Red/Silver, Bone Stock. It was a leaker among other problems. Spent over a month in the shop in the first year.

(Sold) 2002 F-250, Lariat, CC, SWB, SRW, 4X4, 7.3, AT, Island Blue/Silver, SuperChips Programmer, Mag-Hytec Trans Pan & Diff Cover, 3 Gauge A-Pillar Pod, Line-X. Ran like a champ. If I had known then.......

Don't know exactly what I want, but I do know I want more...Correction, I do know what I want. It's just that nobody makes it...

[ QUOTE ]
It was a response to the x-plan being worth it.

[/ QUOTE ]

And Captskup..
"X" plan was never more than a couple hundred under invoice, but still worth the effort to find a PIN because it did eliminate the haggle while saving some extra money under invoice..

Now, it's literally just a few dollars under. That's why it has become a joke.
Look at a new 2008 invoice and you'll see that Ford has taken all of the money back out of "X" plan..

Point being that there is no real advantage anymore. Yes, you may avoid an uncomfortable moment of telling the sales staff how it's going to be, but there is no true money advantage left to go through the effort of hunting a PIN down.

Exactly..

There should never be any negotiating on any new vehicle because YOU, not the dealer hold all of the cards. If you think this is a vice-versa situation, then you are setting yourself up for a hit.
The only window open for negotiation is the value of a trade, if you have one.
If you do have a trade, you simply look at some local auction houses like Adesa to see what a few comps brought, and subtract that wholesale price from the invoice..

In my case, comps like my Chevy were around $17,000 to $19,000.00 depending on mileage.
The dealer sent the truck over to the used car buyer to put a number on it. They came back at 18K.
I asked for $18,500.00 and we were both satisfied and the deal was done in just a few short minutes.
Everybody is happy and nobody gets hurt.

They'll make 2-3K on my truck, I saved an extra $1,500.00 on sales tax and I don't have to deal with tire kickers.

Guys, you can take this advice, or you can forget about what I said, but trust me, if you pay one single cent over invoice, you are giving your hard earned money away needlessly.

Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

For anyone interested, there is a sales manager in Utah that will sell at true invoice, which is about $60 or so from X-Plan. You dont need a pin, and you can also have your truck shipped to your state. This guy helped me, and went out of his way, so I am spreading the word about him. His name is Steve Kersey 801-952-4277 Its worth the call.

Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

Bottom line if you want to get a good deal, you should buy during the month of December, this is when most dealers are actually willing to make a deal. Just before Christmas of 05 my dad bought an 06 KR(copper) FX4 CC SB PSD with all the works for just 42k, when you consider the sticker price on it was over 50k... I think it was a deal.

Yup, the same "skilled American citizens who belong to a labor union" who designed & built the six-point-oh-no.......(sorry, couldn't resist...lol)

Seriously, having owned both I can say that Ford has the edge in chassis strength and interior room. Other than that I can't see much difference

Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

Going a little further into George's theory on trade in's. Never, ever let them mix the numbers up. You tell them you want to trade "straight". Make them put a number on your trade in, AFTER you have made them to commit to invoice on the new truck. Don't let them pull this crap where you sit in a little cubical waiting on your sales person to go back and forth in this stupid ritual game they play. Forget that. Around here the "Black Book" is the bible for trade in's. If they will put average black "real" money in your trade, take it and run. George also pointed out something that most folks forget, you get a dollar for dollar reduction in the amount of sales tax that will be collected by trading. Depending on where you are that amount can be significant. If I were going to buy a Ford truck tomorrow, I would go to the dealer, tell the salesman I was just looking, (I would have already driven and made the decision to buy), find the truck I wanted, tell the salesperson to bring the sales manager over and tell him, show me the invoice and I will write a check for that amount, otherwise we are wasting each others time. Also don't let them screw with you if you need to finance. They will try to make you think that somehow can affect the deal. Baloney, they will make money off that too. In fact they will make more off a financed deal than a cash deal, every time. If you have bad credit, then I feel sorry for you because they will try to break it off in you, especially if they think you are "hot" for the truck. No one with poor credit should be trying to buy a 40k plus truck anyway, not a good financial move.

Re: How Much Off Sticker Price

Amen, KINGTUT, You just said a mouthful. The part about people with even "semi-so-so" credit buying a $40,000 truck is ludacris. Wants and Financial Control don't usually go hand in hand. But it seems these days, its commonplace.

As far as "how much off the sticker" goes: Go get an X-Plan Pin. This gives you (in my experience with a Sales Manager at a Large Ford Store in the vacinity) somewhere around a 2% under invoice price. The guy I talked to about an XL Reg Cab 4x4 6.4 was entirely open to showing me things like Holdback amount ($1140 on the $39,000 sticker) and invoice amount, xplan price, etc.

I was quite shocked at his "no bull" approach to selling. Of course, he was the man who ran the place, I just happened into him while browsing and he was having a cancer-stick break. He was entirely nice. Not stodgy and like I expected of a location manager. None of this whole "let me run it by my manager..." poop.

Anywho, the $39,000 (exactly) sticker came down to $36,000 out the door with 6.5% sales tax and documentation fees of $100.
