Also, Tundra sales from 1/01/07 through 7/31/07 are 106,000 units. Pretty good considering that the new Tundra did not go on sale until February.

I am not saying that the info is wrong, but maybe out of context. Toyo could be laying people off. I have read that the regular cab models are not selling well and I don't think that you can give away a 6 cylinder. 5.7L CrewMax's are moving well, but I don't think that they are building those in SA yet, just IN. So the SA plant might be a little light right now.

I saw that. But around here, the Toyo rebates are down. 60 month 0% is now 48 month. $3500 rebate is now $3000.

GM rebates, on the other hand, are going up. Dodge is already at $6000/truck, so I don't see those moving up any time soon. Ford's F-150 inventory does not look that bad (info from Automotive News), so I don't see any big move one way or the other on the F-150.

Like George said, just wait for the F-250. Production is down 9% so far this year. The big sales pop with the 08 redesign has fizzled, so bigger rebates are coming.

First question you ask your sales manager is "do you have allotment?
I think you got screwed by a dealer without allotment to sell.
My truck was ordered July 16, due to be built next week and in my driveway the next week. All of this would have happened a week sooner if KTP didn't shut down.

I seriously think the day of the big vehicle is over.
The SD line attracted everybody for a long time, but now that fuel costs are starting to cut a LOT deeper into the household budget, what does the average person do? Drive a big rig and not go on vacation, or buy a smaller truck/car/import and save an extra $20.00 a week...

I think you couldn't be more right. I remember about 7-years ago our local dealership was selling F250's to people without trailers or a farm. Now these people will probably not be back in the that market with fuel costs staying high. Also everyone who has a full size crew knows what it's like to try to park in a parking garage [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img], drive thru the bank(watch those mirrors), go to a restaurant on a weekend(you want me to park there?). If I didn't need it I would have a smaller vehicle.

You're right in that respect as I sold a F-350 SD CC long bed and ordered a F-250 SD Supercab shortbed just so I could once again experience parking in a regular space and not have to park 1/2 mile away. When I had my 5th wheel, I needed the long bed, but now I don't. I still pack around the grandkids once in a while, but they will have to be satisfied with a smaller back seat. It'll make 'um tough.

I agree as well..fuel has finally pissed me off but I need a big truck as well.

The presidental elections play apart. US needs to know which way it's going to go and what is going to happen to Irag and friends. People stop buying long term purchases.

Prices too. Seems they've went up almost 2k a year.

You are old enough to remember what happened in 1973. Price is less important than how fast price goes up.

My dad sold gas in the 40s for $0.19/gallon. Even when gas was "cheap" 3-4 years ago, it was still $1.00-$1.50/gallon. Still, everyone bought gas pigs. The difference is that prices went up over 60 years, not 12 months.

At the end of the day, people want fast cars, big cars, more cars. Once "sticker shock" wears off, and people's monthly budgets re-adjusted (which might take a few years), the big car will be back.

I agree.
I think everybody would rather drive something bigger with more room and storage, but right now, fuel mileage is the hot topic again.
This all went down back in the early 80's as well. People were trading in their nice vehicles for little $hit boxes to save a buck on gas.
I think the difference now is that there is tons more debt in the average household than back in those days. Now, saving money on fuel is not an option, but rather a necessity..
