New Diesel?

I have been considering the purchase of a new F-350, but with the new Duramax diesels available soon am very hesitant to sink $35,000 into a Ford with a diesel that will likely be replaced by a more competitive engine in the next couple of years. From what I've read on the new GM truck, I think Ford's pride is in for a hurtin'.

Has anyone heard any rumors about what's next? Will Ford still keep the 7.3 around in an updated version that will keep pace with the Duramax? What about transmissions? I hear the Allison in the GM trucks is one heck of a tranny.

Bottom line: I'd rather wait for a Ford than buy an Isuzu/GM diesel. Just want to know if anyone knows how long it'll be before something new is released, and what the new capabilities will be.

Two years ago I might have shelled out 35 big ones for SuperDuty; think there's too much changing in the heavy duty pickup market to do that now.

Re: New Diesel?

John M. has a good point. The truck is definitely proven. I have seen the GM units, and, frankly, they look stupid. The trailer towing mirrors look like they were snatched from the GM 1500-series parts bin. The Ford mirrors look much more solid and much more suitable for REAL towing jobs.

I'm considering the RAM and the Ford. Dodge doesn't have a crew cab, and if I'm shelling out more than $30k, potentially, I'm going to get what I want! Advantage: Ford.

Probably will be the middle of next summer before I place my order, though, as I am currently overseas (military.) By then, hope to have a nice downpayment!

Thanks again,
-Mike
