NJ cost surcharge on my X order today,is this a valid charge?????

Hello-
Placed an order today under the "D" plan for a 2003 6.0L Excursion and according to my "vehicle order confirmation",it claims there is a $125.00 NJ cost surcharge. I understand the FDAF assessment although not thrilled about the $435.00 charge but have heard it is a valid charge that I would have to pay. Is this NJ cost surcharge valid or should I question with my sales person. Any info. would be very helpful. Thanks guys--TDS rules!!

Closer to Ford Corportate Headquaters is seems the more in FDAC Assessment you pay. I paid $ 270.00 in California, asked my dealer about this and he said " everybody pays for the Country and western singer in the Superduty Tv adds"

They have a simular one in Michigan. I was told it is a charge to pay for the dealer to take care of all the paper work. I think it is a scam to hit the customer for an extra few bucks. I think the way the law reads is the dealer may charge, not that he has to charge. I purchased a car last month for my mother and it was printed right on the blank invoice. I'll bet one could say, take it off or you will not have a deal and you would see it removed.

I'm in Kentucky and my dealer had that paperwork charge of $150.00 printed on the invoice. But when they printed the invoice paperwork, the computer X'd it out. So I didn't pay it. When I had purchased my F150 6 years ago at a different dealer, they charged the fee. I would guess it may be a dealer option to charge.

Re: NJ cost surcharge on my X order today,is this a valid charge?????

The NJ cost surcharge is a valid charge. Ford pays very, very poorly on warranty repairs (hence the reason many dealer don't want to do warranty work). New Jersey has a law that manufacturers have to pay their franchises the same amount for parts and labor on a warranty repair that would be paid if the customer were responsible. In responce Ford is surcharging sales in the state (I think there are some others also). The plus to this is that you'll probably find that you get better service in NJ than elsewhere because the mechanics and dealerships can make a fair profit for doing a warranty repair in lieu of trying to brake even like in other states.

The other charge for doing the Paperwork is called a DOC fee (documentation), it is a graft that I don't believe in, but most dealers do charge it.
